    Water main code questions

I dug up an old lead water main today and im replacing it with HDpe. Does anyone know what the code says about when and where to switch over to copper? I've heard 10' from house in order to use it as a grounding electrode for the service panel. Any input would be appreciated.

    bathroom remodel

That is cutting it pretty close. Try using an offset closet flange. That should gain you about 2" and you won't have to add/move any pipe...if that is too much work, the make toilets with offset outlets that essentially do the same thing.

    My bathroom repair project

If you're replacing your old surround, just replace the supply to the shower head with a longer piece then you could use a standard (and presumably cheaper ) fixture. ??

    off-set Closet Flange

I would guess that the new wall board he put up is thicker, or over laid onto the existing wall making the space between finished wall and flange smaller.

Zanne, I think you'd be better off trying to find raised panel doors at a used cabinet/reuse building material shop than making them. That is, unless you have an in-table router set up that you could make the rails and stiles and a panel bit to rout the raised panel. Raised panel doors aren't...

    Leaking tank on toilet

I'm thinking that if you replaced the faulty flapper that was letting water leak into the bowl, now the tank can fill to the original level. No leak, no reason it can't fill to proper level and stay there.

    My bathroom repair project

Depending on how bent the original flange is, you may want to go with the Lowes gasket, spacer kit (the 13.00 dollar one) because the rubber gasket may help the spacer seal to the bent flange and you can use the included rubber shims to shim your bent closet flange back to level. If you can...

    My bathroom repair project

Yes, that's how I would do that. Don't bother trying to push up the pipe from the bottom. You can buy closet flange spacers that mount to the existing flange and you can stack more than one. Don't try to stack wax rings to build up, they will eventually fail and seep water. Those spacer...

converting bathroom sink drain to bathtub

I know in Ohio a lot of guys aren't using 1 1/2" anymore because it will be illegal soon anyway. I don't see why it wouldn't still work for venting but I know in colder climates code says you have to increase to 3" once it breaches the roof so it doesn't frost shut. In any case, if you're...

    My bathroom repair project

Luan is the correct subfloor/underlayment for sheet vinyl. Cement board is only necessary for ceramic, porcelain, or stone tiles. Don't install the cement board directly to the joists--it needs to be mortared to the plywood or OSB decking using thin-set and then screwed in place every 4-8"...

Most efficient way to heat water

Thanks for the input, I wondered if the electric co. would try to recuperate some of the lost revenue. If I replace the 40 g electric heater with an NG, I'm still thinking of getting a smaller tank. It's just my wife and I, thoughts?

Most efficient way to heat water

Hi all, I live in a rural area that recently had a natural gas pipeline put in. I'm currently using electricity but I'm looking to switch to natural gas because I've read they are more efficient. I asked a plumber friend of mine about tankless water heaters and he said they are efficient but...
