Do 2.5 GPM Rain Showers Really Perform?

True dat. Then again, the only pressure I'm going to get is what the city gives me. What I am interested in is high flow rate into the showerhead. It's simple. For any given flow rate and pressure, more nozzles, like in a big rain head, means less flow though each nozzle. So, if I can...

Do 2.5 GPM Rain Showers Really Perform?

And... if I may add a question onto that... it seems that most faucet valves from any manufacturer are good for at least 5 or 6 GPM and that the flow limiters lie in the shower heads, is that correct? For example, a Delta tub/shower unit offers 6 GPM for the tub fill and only 2 GPM for the...

Slow tub flow. Plumber say's $850 to fix !!!

I'm sorry... I used the wrong terminology... I should have said galvanized pipe, as below. When I remodeled my kitchen, the pipes were close to filled in with corrosion. With the amount of rust colored grunge that shows up in my bathroom aerators, I know these pipes aren't much better.

Slow tub flow. Plumber say's $850 to fix !!!

So... the OP says that the water is at a "trickle"... and maybe this has something to do with washers and seats... although that's not been my experience... even if a washer comes loose inside the valve, if you open things up enough, water starts to flow. I notice that you have a picture of...

Do 2.5 GPM Rain Showers Really Perform?

I'm looking at the possibility of a rain shower... just a maybe... or perhaps a 2 in 1 combo with a handheld and larger fixed shower spray. But the biggest flow rate I find on any of these is 2.5 GPM. For an 8" or greater head, this doesn't seem so much like a rain shower as it does a...

What's With All the Single Function Shower and Tub Faucets?

Man, I'm getting a real education. Will call Delta in the morning about valve and cartridge flow rates. Reminds me of the guy who walked into home depot paint department one morning. Four of us standing around. The guy says, "Give me a can of tan and a can of white." Little did he know.

What's With All the Single Function Shower and Tub Faucets?

Was this the PosiTemp valve or the Moentrol? I'm kind leaning towards the Delta Monitor 17 series. They make a "high flow" shower only valve, but still trying to find flow rate specs for it. I like the idea of 2 handles on a single shaft...

36 year old shower fixture - RIP?

Oops. My bad... thanks for pointing that out. If exterior wall is hardie plank or shake, might be a way to do it.

What's With All the Single Function Shower and Tub Faucets?

Did you look at the Delta webpage? Or the Moen webpage ( Moen 101 )? All of the valves they sell are "anti-scald", that is, pressure balancing, to deal with sudden changes in pressure, regardless of whether they are single function or dual function. As a matter of fact, my old American...

What's With All the Single Function Shower and Tub Faucets?

I'm thinking about going with a Delta valve system that has two handles on the shaft... one for temp, one for flow rate. One of their options in their "multi choice universal valve" line - Interchangeable Shower Valve with MultiChoice® Technology | Delta Faucet

Tub/Shower Faucet Eventually Starts Dripping Again After Replacing Valve Stems

Well... that ends my SWAG's as to what might be causing the problem.

Is that a removable seat (arrow) in this image?

36 year old shower fixture - RIP?

Out of curiosity, what is on the other side of that shower fixture? That is, the wall on the other side of the shower? Is it tiled? If not, then, it's much easier to open up a sheetrock wall on the backside and make the swap out. This will make it possible to access the piping.

What's With All the Single Function Shower and Tub Faucets?

Exactly! Considering a rain shower head, and I always do remove flow restrictors. But, that's also because I tend to turn the water flow off/down, while soaping up. Ah well... looks like a custom ordering job.

What's With All the Single Function Shower and Tub Faucets?

Actually, it can be done with a volume control knob, and all the biggies in the faucet manufacturing business still sell volume control valves... it's just that the kits with valve and trim hardware you find at the big box stores only have the temp control valve in them. You've got to "roll...

What's With All the Single Function Shower and Tub Faucets?

Thank you! I hadn't thought about that... limited flow means who cares about volume control when the volume is already so low... you turn it on high every time.

What's With All the Single Function Shower and Tub Faucets?

So... I visit Home Despot, then Lowe's then go online to a couple of outfits. They all sell single function, temperature control faucet valves in all of their sets. What's with this? For example, I look at a couple of Moen's. They are all sold with the "Posi-Temp" valve, which means it will...

Diverter Valves and Pressure Balancing Valves For Shower/Tub Combos

Thanks. I've been planning on installing Moen products... so far, cannot find anything like that unless I move into their extremely expensive thermostatic and digital products.

Diverter Valves and Pressure Balancing Valves For Shower/Tub Combos

Ahhhh... thank you for that. I had forgot about those types of devices, and apparently had a bit of a brain fart as well... forgetting that even the diverter valve I showed uses gravity to keep water from coming out the showerhead when the tub is running.

Diverter Valves and Pressure Balancing Valves For Shower/Tub Combos

The picture is the bathtub faucet valve I want to replace. It is an American Standard, single handle mixing valve with a push/pull diverter. My question is if I buy a new pressure balanced valve like the Moen Posi-Temp (MOEN Brass Rough-In Posi-Temp Pressure-Balancing Cycling Tub and Shower...
