    Shower Diverter Stem Broken

Just an update here - I was able to use a 5/8 tap to bite onto the smaller diameter hole of the part that was stuck in the housing. It worked great. Did this for both my baths. Now I have little to no water coming out of bottom faucet during showers. Thanks all.

    Shower Diverter Stem Broken

Hey thanks. I’ll give it another go over the weekend and try again to get that o ring out.

    Aftermarket Shower Stem Kit

I should clarify, it’s not just when you open slightly. It happens every time we try to draw a bath for little one unless you crank all the way and we are always having to listen out so she doesn’t get burned due to cold water shutting off.

    Aftermarket Shower Stem Kit

Another question... I have replaced two sets of American Standard Colony series 3 handle shower stems in my house. Both went in well (other than diverter issue; see my other thread). Problem is, both have an issue with hammering shut when opening slightly. If you turn cold water on slightly...

    Shower Diverter Stem Broken

Yes it’s a smooth cylinder with I think an o ring you can see in front of it and it’s just calcified in there really hard. Handle and stem we’re both very difficult to remove with good tools. I need a good method to break this loose so it will all side out.

    Shower Diverter Stem Broken

Gotcha. The piece stuck in there isn’t threaded unfortunately. Thanks for tips I’ll look into anchor.

    Shower Diverter Stem Broken

I tried some penetrating lubricant stuff. I will see about getting creeper oil. Didn’t understand the question on bonnet/stem. I can put stem back in but it doesn’t really catch on anything or allow me to pull rest of it out? (I’m not a plumber so I need told if I’m saying something dumb) :-)

    Shower Diverter Stem Broken

So I actually bent a thin metal rod into a tool just like that. I was able to pull hard on the holes of the sleeve and the valve body pulled back with it and the sleeve wouldn’t come loose. So it’s stuck pretty good. Guess I need some way to push on the valve body while pulling on the stick sleeve?

    Shower Diverter Stem Broken

Thanks guys. I’m not sure there’s anything still threaded in. It’s just the plastic piece and a brass cylinder looking thing stuck in there that I think should just slide out but it’s stuck. I could be wrong.

    Shower Diverter Stem Broken

So I have replaced upstairs and downstairs stems to repair leaking but I cannot replace diverter stems due to both of them being broken and part of the stem is stuck in behind wall. I’ve attached pics showing the new diverter stem and the old one missing part of it which is left in wall. The...

    3 Handle Shower Valve Identification

You are right. I am struggling to get that piece out. It should slide out as it's not threaded into anything once the rest of valve is out but all I can pull out are some washers that were also left in. Any tricks? Argh...

    3 Handle Shower Valve Identification

If you mean all the parts to the diverter stem then I'm afraid I have them all in view (other than non functional parts like sleeve, escutcheon, etc). However, the shower diverter doesn't really work anyway which would be explained by the missing plastic piece there. (It only puts some water...

    3 Handle Shower Valve Identification

Thanks a lot! That's pretty impressive... That would make sense since I've (since posting this) found the following part on amazon that appears to match my threading and everything very closely. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009XD3AFM/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 It only comes with two...

    3 Handle Shower Valve Identification

I'm looking for help in identifying the brand (and eventually model) of the 3 handle compression shower stem valves in my showers. I believe they are original to the home (1960s). I see the K on the drain plate cover but I don't believe my faucet, stem valves, etc. are actually Kohler after...
