Loud bang / thump noise at water heater

I thought expansion tanks need to be set at 50% of the water pressure

What is this green substance on the copper water pipes?

The Statue of Liberty is green.

    Repeat broken pipe

The thread could go on forever theorizing how the fitting came undon. I don’t agree with air temp with air pressure breaking the fitting... I’m sure the joint wasn’t done properly. If you look at the picture the separation in the pipe obviously has a lot of play OR when they spliced in the...

    Take apart a kitchen spray-head?

They are pressure fit or sealed via vibration which melts the joints together. Get a band saw and cut the thing in half the long way. Then just get a new one Why waste your time with this? It’s a spray head. Pull trigger, valve opens and sprays water through clogged holes. What is more to dissect.

    Repeat broken pipe

Ah yea that makes sense! So what about a pex connection coming off of the main then back to Copper? So .. meter—> Copper to House —> a run of pex—> back to copper for the remainder of the House Would that still require bonding?

    Outdoor water meter

Wow only buried 6-8” for a water main? Wouldn’t that freeze or be prone to easy damage ?

Using teflon tape on non-tapered joint

Yes just more tape and don’t worry

How do you handle the grounding pipes that should be done using pex, or is that just on older homes.

    Repeat broken pipe

It’s common to have a ball valve behind each outside faucet. The one reason I don’t like using pex adaptors to copper is the inside diameter is smaller than the normal copper 3/4 or 1/2 and it reduces water flow. I have an outdoor facet that doesn’t flow very much because I changed from copper...

    Repeat broken pipe

Also I was just thinking of water hammer or maybe even expansion and contraction of wood where the copper is mounted to could have pulled the fitting apart. Maybe not right at the fitting but down somewhere else

    Repeat broken pipe

My guess is user error in installing the fitting. It’s also a good reason to use solder fittings. 2 fittings failed that were not solder. Also I didn’t see a PRV (pressure reducing valve), assuming this line goes right into city water your probably having 200 psi !!

Using teflon tape on non-tapered joint

Bought a moen shower head and diverter valve. The O ring gets shoved back up into the chrome extension. It would never seal. Tried a new valve, different manufacturer and the answer was , guess... more Teflon tape! The general rule is cover the threads with the tape 50% of the depth of threads...

Remodeling Kitchen - Moving Sink ~15" to the Right

You should be fine. I couldn’t imagine another foot 1/2 will not cause any issues. With the pipe running right through the middle of the cabinet , you might lose some space in the replacement cabinet as the pipe will be in the way, however I presume the pipe would be cut off near the wall...

    Too many floods...bad design?

Seems that you need to extend the waste pipe up and out 2’ And get the sink drain coming down with an wye Looks like the septic flows right into the drain of the sink.

One of our 2 showers uses all of the hot water in about 10 minutes...

I can’t see how this would happen. If both shower heads have the same output, and the same water temp coming out, would’t it be impossible for this to happen? In order to drain the hot water faster than the same output as the other shower, either 1) the shower heads aren’t actually the same and...

Frost Line and Frozen Pipes at the Cabin

Typically the freezing will take place above ground unless it’s extremely cold. What area and temps are you experiencing ? I wouldn’t think the line will blow back, it should be pressurized the hole length of The well tube so you don’t have to wait for the water to be pumped up each time. My...

Advice on replacing rigid toilet supply line?

Use a multi-tool, cut a workable area vertically on the lines of the bead board, make another cut high up and the assess. Looks like a poor job as they just slapped the bead board right over the valve.
