Flushing and anode rod checking/ replacement (how bad the water is) can and will dictate overall life of the heater. You can easily get 20 plus years out...

Most brands are made from the same manufacturer. I prefer kitchenAid looks and db. You pretty much get what you pay for as far as quality goes. Good luck.
