    Thanks. That's what I thought, but I am a newbie and the codes are so hard to read/understand. I almost wonder, however, if 10 feet of 2" pipe, an elbow, and a tee really cost more than the extra flashing material and vent cap. (or maybe it doesn't need a cap?) As I thought about it...

    Water Heater Insufficient

    Even simpler approach: Tell your family not to take long showers -- when the hot water is gone, it's gone. Low flow shower heads will help, but cannot compensate for irresponsible user behavior.

    It seems to me that *any* space with *any* fuel-burning appliance should have a CO detector installed. (King of overkill speaking. I hope this suggestion doesn't make it into any building code, but it makes sense to me.)

    Ah, there's a solution: cat poop is also great for composting. Properly managed compost piles do not stink. Research "humanure" to learn how do to it right. Think: If your cat were an outdoor cat, where would the poop end up?
