Laundry Standpipe Rough In - Curious if this meets code

Hard to tell from the picture if these requirements are met, but UPC code says no standpipe shall be no longer than 30" and not less than 18" in length. Also the trap must be more than 6" and no more than 18" from the floor.

DWV Vent through side of house?

Has anyone ever seen a plumbing vent terminate through the side if a house, rather than the roof, and then turn up like a snorkel? Is this legal? Why or why not?

Electric water heater for space heating

Thanks for the quick reply! Actually electric is one of the cheaper ways to heat our homes in my area, as we run off of hydro power and don't have natural gas. I know that they work in the examples I have seen, but my biggest question was whether or not it was code. My local inspector wasn't...

Electric water heater for space heating

I have recently come across a couple of radiant heat systems that are being heated using a 50 gallon electric water heater. Is this legal? Is this ok to do according to code? The systems I have seen have been working fine for years, I was just wondering if this as ok to do or not.

Wrong drainage pipe installation - blocked drainage

Your plumber should have used a long sweep 90 where it goes from vertical to horizontal, and a medium sweep for the other 90 but what you have is still better than what what you had before.

    gate valves - guts/inners interchangeable?

I always get a little worried when I have to use an old gate valve. Seems like they always want to break at the worst time. I'd swap out for a new ball valve if it was up to me.

    Recirculting pump w/ tankless

You can either put your circ pump on a timer (which might not be a solution to your problem), or you can run your circ pump through an aqua stat, which will make your pump run only when the temperature of the water in the recirc line drops below a set temperature.

This little gem got dropped in my lap yesterday

John, in 1984 my grandfather bought my dad and my uncle each a Timber Wolf angle drills. My uncle worked for the maintenance department for the city and my dad was in business for himself plumbing. We still use my dads drill almost every day and the only things that have been replaced are the...

    Vent pipe question...

The total vent area for a building is required to equal the area of the required building drain. For example, two 2" vents combined with one 1.5" vent is equal to one 3" vent, which would be required for most houses with 3 or fewer toilets. Hard to know the size of a vent through the roof...

Sewer vent in my front yard

I would say that it is most likely a stub up for a clean out. In many areas, a clean out is required within 5 feet of the building. If this is what I think it is, there is no harm in capping it off low to the ground.

    snrusnak's shower remodel

One of these can be used to plug your shower drain. One is a rubber screw plug and the other is inserted in the drain and filled with air pressure to block the drain.

Moving hot water cylinder to loft?

You lose 1/2 psi per 1 foot in elevation increase. But then you gain that much pressure when the water goes back down. You souls be fine.

New house can't figure kitchen sink rough in...

The two drains on either side are for the sink drain and disposal, the one at the top is a clean out. Strange configuration but that's the only explanation I can think of. I'm not 100% sure but I believe that is a cross between the two stub outs in the picture and is supposed to be a double...

    Toilet flange help

That surprises me that the new flange raised it up too high. Was that a plastic flange? http://www.siouxchief.com/Drainage/ResidentialDrainage/Closet-Flanges/Ringer.829NY. In my experience, because this flange is recessed, it doesn't raise the total height more than 1/8" or so. Or maybe you...

    Toilet flange help

You can get a replacement flange ring and screw it right over the top of the old one. Try to use a stainless steel one. Also, get a wax ring with a flange so that it fits into the pipe. The toilet may have rocked because the concrete floor may not be level. I like to use plastic shims to...

Smell of Sewage in Basement Apartment

Can you see the vent from the sewage ejector pump? Maybe something has come loose since the pump was worked on. Either that or you have an improperly vented drain line somewhere and one of your traps may be being sucked dry when the pump goes on. Or maybe you have a floor drain somewhere and...

    Question about drainage cleanouts

Thanks John. There actually is a 3" x 4" bushing in the 4" wye, with a short piece of 3", a 3" coupling, and a 3" street 45. I was running low on fittings at the time.

    Question about drainage cleanouts

Thanks Steve. I'm more concerned with passing my inspection and being up to code rather than actually needing to use the clean out. As far as I'm concerned its good enough, I was just looking for a second opinion.
