    Water heater advice...

I have a Bradford-White 50 gallon running on propane. It's 12 years old and still going strong (fingers crossed) after 12 years in a very hard water area. It's what I guess you are calling the power vent with the mixing valve. It mixes hot air with ambient air and forces it out with a squirrel...

    Sharkbite vs Crimp?

I bought a house with PEX 9 years ago, and I've been doing DIY plumbing using John Guest (or Lowes equivalent) type press on fittings. The Shark Bite brand is a more recent addition to their offerings. I never bought the crimp tool because it was so expensive (over $100 at the time), and I...

    The squatty potty

The girl on the front page sure looks happy. I find most toilets too low, especially modern ones. And the water level is too close to the seat, if you get my drift. Edit: OK, I wasn't gonna do it, but I watched the video. Next time I'm having trouble, I'll take Chris's advice and lean forward...

    Kitchen Sink Clog Surprise

I'm not quite following these options. I've done a fair amount of plumbing, but I really am an amateur. Been lucky up 'til now I guess. In reading up, I see that there's tees, wyes, combo wyes, and cleanout tees. Who knew? ( well, you all did...). Upstream of that wall everything is in...

    Kitchen Sink Clog Surprise

OK, I see what your saying. I will make the switch. Then there won't be any low pressure dead spots in the direction of flow. The downside is the cleanout will be 90 degrees from the direction I'll probably need it. What do you think of these rubber flexible couplings that screw tight with...

    Kitchen Sink Clog Surprise

I see your point about the wye (using it assbackwards). Wondering what I should have done different? I thought I was being clever putting the cleanout there. Here's the offending connection, shot from directly below. As I look at that photo, I can picture junk accumulating in that no-mans land...

    Kitchen Sink Clog Surprise

That hot water trick sounds like a good idea. In that picture, I added a wye and put a cleanout plug on the straight-away. It's hidden in the pic by the Freon line to the heat pump. I should also mention that there was an early symptom - the dishwasher wasn't working up to snuff. There was...

    Well system help

I use a Russco spin down filter to get most of my sediment and sand. Then a pleated filter after that. I'm guessing my pump is sunk too close to the bottom, I have to flush it almost daily during the Summer.

    Kitchen Sink Clog Surprise

Well, I finally have an issue I think is worth posting here. My house is 10 years old; I've been here 5. Never had a plumbing issue until this week. The kitchen sink wouldn't drain. So I pulled the trap - clean. Damn! Dumped a bottle of Drano down there. It drained, but failed the full sink...

HELP - Planting trees near septic tank

Get on with your life. I you can't flush a toilet 5 years from now, worry about it. With that slope, I doubt you'll ever know you had a problem.

Hot & Cold Water Lines Crossed?

Sounds really frustrating. It's fun to think about how I might have tried to troubleshoot the problem. Not so much fun if it's your problem to solve. I'm gonna guess that the cold water got tied into one of the recirculating lines. It was a 2nd line next to the Hot, so it must be Cold!

    Help Request: Traps

What's up with that stub to the right? That thing reminds me of a contrabasoon

Hot & Cold Water Lines Crossed?

This sounds intriguing. I wonder how it ended. Hey Vegas - you still out there? Did you solve the problem? I'm guessing since you're in Vegas that you don't have a basement to trace the lines easily.
