Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

Not yet, it will take me some time with competing priorities. Will probably be my first project in the spring. Might do the tank during the winter.

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

Is this the pump you would recommend? https://www.wwpp.co/grundfos/3-wire-stainless-submersible-pumps/10gpm-4-3-wire-stainless-submersible-deep-well-pumps/grundfos-10s05-6-10gpm-1ph-1-2hp-230v-3-wire-well-pump.html

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

As always I'll keep you updated. Might take some time/motivation before I get to either of those steps.

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

Yes the house would be pressurized anywhere from 40-60 PSI depending on what it was when I turned the ball valve off. When I open it again there is a little bit of pressure equalization based on what the pressure above and below the ball valve is. No I have not tried to replace it. The thing...

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

Yes, when I turn the system back on I keep the ball valve closed and run a few cycles emptying the hose faucet into the sump pump basin. There is no vibration for all of these cycles. As soon as I open the ball valve the vibration kicks in.

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

Well, I bought an amp clamp meter and the well pump is pulling ~6.7A. Seems to be rated for 5A with a max of 6A per the control box diagram. Does this definitely represent a bad/failing pump? Or is there anything else that could cause high amp draw? Two points of consideration... 1) It has...

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

Maybe I should try to find an AC amp meter...

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

Here are the videos that I took trying to recreate what is going on. The first one (12 second video) I closed the ball valve to the rest of the house and completely drained the system down to no water pressure. I kept the ball valve to the rest of the house closed and turned the water pump back...

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

I am going to replicate what I have done in the past when manipulating the system and take a video to post here. Previously when I drained the pressure tank to install the flex line when I turned the pump back on there was no vibration until I opened the ball valve to the rest of the house...

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

I must be doing it wrong... I dont have a meter with an amp clamp so I wired in parallel on one of the lines as shown in the picture. The picture was taken with the pump running and the meter shows 0, it did flash to 0.06 when the pump kicked on. Possibly because it is a 2 wire 230v system? Not...

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

The pump is 18 years old. The bladder tank is about 10 I think. Is there an easy way to check the amp draw? I have attached photos of my electric setup for the pump. Would a failing pump draw over the listed amps on the spec sheet? Would that possibly cause my vibration issue? Thank you!

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

Sorry if you guys are getting tired of reading these posts but I did another experiment that has only led to further confusion. The attached photos show my main water line coming from the well and branching off into the house. I removed all pipe hangers in this corner of the house (where the...

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

I tried this with the outside hose running and turning all the valves I could find in the house off. Didn't seem to make any difference. When the pump kicked on I turned the ball valve back and forth with little change in the vibration pattern. When I had the ball valve closed and it was not...

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

The pump is getting older, 18 years. When I go to the pump head outside and the pump runs I cannot hear any vibration which makes me think the origin of the vibration is somewhere in the house.

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

I am having a hard time finding 1 inch FIP flexible PCV/braided jacket. It seems like at 1 inch the only option is corrugated stainless steel like I have in the pictures.

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

Do you have pictures? It makes me nervous putting something in the water supply line that isn't metal or steel braided.

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

UPDATE.... I am still trying to avoid cutting the main 1" copper supply line to the house so my next step was to isolate the water pressure tank with a flexible line, to eliminate that as the possible source of the vibration. See below for pictures. Once again I thought this was the fix. After...

Vibration from water well pump - Water Pump Switch as cause?

@Twowaxhack Very interesting and thorough article but I dont think my setup has either of those problems. Definitely doesn't short cycle and it doesn't seem to have pressure switch chatter. The switch kicks on and runs consistently, with a vibration/hum from somewhere in the system, until it...
