    Pulsating pipes

So far the pipe pulsating has not happened since I changed the flapper. Thank you for your help. I did adjust the flapper a little and clean off the areas. It still leaks but very, very slowly. It would take no flushing in 24 hours for it to get low enough for the fill valve to start...

    Pulsating pipes

After 7 hours with the new flapper on the water level dropped by 1/8 of an inch. This is a big improvement over old flapper. It is the genuine recommended flapper for my toto toilet made by Korky. Any suggestions on how to resolve the slow leak?

    Pulsating pipes

I replaced the flapper so I will monitor and see if that solves the toilet and the banging of the pipes, if not I will move onto other options. Thanks to all

    Pulsating pipes

Is it common, normal, for pipes to rattle and perhaps I need to also check for straps in the attic?

    Pulsating pipes

Ok. I was able to catch it in action. When the pipes were pulsating somewhere in the house the toilet fill valve tube was sputtering water into the overflow pipe. O tried to replicate by lowering tank level but it hasn’t done it yet. However, the fill valve is making some noises, see attached...

    Pulsating pipes

Thanks. I assume I will need to change the flapper first to see if that fixes the leak before moving on. I will get one today

    Pulsating pipes

But considering that the flapper leaks all the time but the pipes pulsate randomly makes me wonder if it is due to something else as mentioned in other posts. Maybe the toilet valve, shower valve cartridge or something with the water heater

    Pulsating pipes

It is not confirmed for sure that the toilet issue is causing the pulsating pipes. I will replace flapper first since I know I have a leak. I do like your suggestion and can turn water off to toilet to see if the issue goes away. Unfortunately it is very random, can happen every 4 or 8 days

    Pulsating pipes

Is it possible that The pulsating in the lines, hot and cold possibly, is being caused by the leaking toilet? Just asking because I didn’t think they would be related

    Pulsating pipes

You are right. Last night I turned off water and this morning the tank was empty. I will replace the flush valve and flapper. I have a toto toilet. Any recommendations on part? Merry Christmas

    Pulsating pipes

Thanks. I did replace the seal cap and still have the problem. I will work on other things. What happens is water sputters from the fill tube line into the overflow pipe and makes a sputtering noise. It isn’t a constant stream of water, it sputters in but it does it randomly, meaning not when...

    Pulsating pipes

Thanks. I have replaced the seal cap in the fill valve as a starting point. If that doesn’t fix it what toilet part would you suggest I replace next?

    Pulsating pipes

So this morning the pipes were pulsating with no water running in the house. About 20 minutes after taking a shower the pipes pulsating for about five seconds. I was not able to tell where it was coming from. What would make that happen with no water running?

    Pulsating pipes

@breplum Here is a picture of the shower valve. Is there something I should replace? water pressure at main valve coming into the house is 60psi. There also doesn’t appear to be a leak at that main valve. My wife said when the thumping happens the water is actually sputtering during that...

    Pulsating pipes

ok. How about the cartridge in the shower valve? Should I start there? I can send a picture of the valve tonight when I get home.

    Pulsating pipes

A couple of questions. What would be the best way to fix the ball valve leak? Can that leak be causing the issue with the shower line thumping.

    Pulsating pipes

Thanks for the response. The valve is on the main line coming into the house and going to the water heater. It's just a valve that has a twist handle on top to turn the water off that is coming into the house from the street. I uploaded a picture of what mine looks like, this isn't my valve...

    Pulsating pipes

That all makes sense. This just started a few weeks ago, the shower has been in place for almost 3 years. I don't recall the type of shower valve, I will need to check but it wasn't a cheapo one. It was a name brand but I know that doesn't always mean anything. I will be checking the water...

    Pulsating pipes

What other information would be helpful? There is no pressure relief valve other than a valve on top of the water heater.

    Pulsating pipes

Hello, Two or three times a week over the last few weeks the shower pipes, I assume the pipes, will pulsate while the shower is running. It is strong and loud. We also have a problem with the toilet in the same shower and it is making odd noises when not in use, can't say it is a hammer but...
