PVC clean out plug stuck in 4" Cast iron pipe fitting

4" cast iron sewer pipes, basement clean out has a PVC plug that won't turn. Exposed threads on the plug are dark, maybe sealant, or, maybe old sewage? I warmed up the cast iron, but that didn't free up the plug. Next step: HEAT the cast iron? or just cut the PVC plug out with my Sawzall...

Replacing 40gal water heater (Rheem). New expansion tank goes on supply side, and should be after the shutoff valve. Heating: Gas Boiler to FWA system (think car's heater) air bound?, clogged?, circulator?

My house has an unusual (to me) Peerless Gas H/W boiler to FWA system similar to an automobile's heating system. The boiler and A/C system were new in 2000. In 2020 the circulator get stuck; wacked it, and it started up, following summer, installed new Taco 007e. Currently: No heat. Boiler fires...

    Tree Roots from dead tree

Original owners of my 1962 house planted a tree *directly* over sewer line where it transitions from my 4" cast iron to County's clay pipe. That tree was taken down 3 months ago. Will the roots that are partially blocking that waste line rot out by themselves, or should I have plumber cut...

Which brand circulator pump - Hot Water heating system

Taco circulator pump (age 18) on my hot-water heating system was not working earlier today, then it decided to start spinning again. But my take is, it's just a matter of time until it goes out again, most likely on a snowy -17 day. Time to replace it. Any opinions on what brand to replace it...

This is an age 20+ Delta centerset faucet, single "crystal" handle. Untouched since installed, but needs new seals at this point. The screw-down cap holding down the inner parts, ball, etc. is frozen, pipe wrench won't loosen it, faucet moves instead. Any tips on how to get it motivated? ;)

Handles frozen on Brass Craft shutoff valves

I'm getting ready to replace two lavatory faucets. Last time I touched anything under this double sink was when current faucets went in, maybe 17 years ago. The handles on all 4 shutoff valves: are stuck open, and it's going to take some force to get them to move. I don't want to deal with...

Hot water heat - Aquastat transformer bad?

I was trying to help a friend find the problem with his gas-fired hot water heating boiler. Does not fire up. Traced as much as I could, and appears that where we're supposed to see 24 volts, multimeter says we have around 8-9 volts. Anyone with experience here on whether the transformer in a...

Replace water heater now, or wait for a leak?

I have a 20+/- year-old Bradford White 40gal gas water heater (Short, 40k btu input). While in the basement recently, the water heater kicked in, then started to make LOUD banging noises. Guessing this is what someone here diagnosed as built-up of now hardened sediment at base of tank ...

Washer Drain needs AAV? Slope of Pipes

Here are pictures of what's currently installed in house. Washer drain is 2" PVC, drops straight down to S trap, then to Wye. I think this needs an AAV after the trap. The slope of the drain lines is too steep at 3/4" or 1" per foot, or can I ignore this Finally - in...
