So... this was an old 1 1/4 chrome downspout l had to pull out... it crushed as I pulled it out and I found a metallic hose and also a rubber one, small like something you'd use to feed water. So what was it?

Its always full, down about 4 inches from the drain. When its filing from a shower it pulses- the water level. Is it a clog or is the pipe not constructed properly? What I can't do is run a hose from my dehumidifier or from my heater... it fills up and overflows. Again, is it just not...

Are these really necessary? I'm told they are because the condensate is a high ph and will melt my drain pipes (pvc).

How long would it take one of these things to rot from the inside out with regular wear and tear? I'm thinking tenants were using Drano and not telling us when there was a clog.... the thing crumbled under my grasp like cardboard and it never had a leaking problem ever in 25 years.
