    Sewage smell in basement

My nephew has a sewage smell in his basement. Has anyone used one of those inexpensive gas detectors?

Septic Tank Full of Toilet Paper

Outlet baffle was cracked. Pumper told me U need a $4500 new tank. Replaced cracked outlet baffle, with one with a pull out filter. And a PVC "T" for the inlet. Pumping company. Told me I don't need an inlet "T". Of course, they make money pumping, and tank, and leach field replacement!

    Cost of installation?

There are thieves in every profession. My septic recently backed up and after pumping they said I needed a new tank, for $4,500 I replace the outlet baffle and all is well.

    Drywell for washing machine questions

Thinking if the drywell backs up, and using a stand pipe, it would flood the garage. If using a stand pipe, I think I would need at least 1 1/2" pipe from stand pipe to drywell. 55 Gal drum is plastic.

    Coiled tubing for water line?

Are you planning an running a temporary line? I would use the same pipe or tubing I planned on burying. I replaced a 150' main to a rental house I had, and went to a supplier, of commercial tubing and water pipes. Sold me a coil of 3/4" (actual id 13/16") plastic tubing, a some massive bronze...

    Drywell for washing machine questions

Planning on making a 55 gallon drywell for our washing machine, to take load off septic leach field. Questions: 1. The 1" washing machine discharge hose just sticks into a larger pvc vertical pipe, in the wall, where I assume there is a trap. Is the vertical pipe necessary? Would it be a bad...

    Tank baffle replacement

I would first install a concrete anchor, in the tank part you need to cut out. Secure a strong rope to it, and tie other end of rope to a tree, or something else. This is to prevent the piece from falling in tank. Cut the top out. I would use a concrete saw, and maybe impact masonary drill bit...

Septic Tank Full of Toilet Paper

Just curious if the inlet pipe has a baffle on it? Mine didn't and the scum layer plugged the inlet. I installed a baffle after tank was pumped, as well as an outlet baffle, that has a pull out, washable filter, to keep stuff out of leach field.

New to Septic System - Shower Backing Up

Not an expert, but just repaired my septic. First. A septic tank should always be full. It overflows into the leach field. First thing I would do, is stick a garden hose down the cleanout that is full. Stick the hose in the cleanout, toward the septic tank. With water running, work the hose down...

    General septic tank questions

I would check the condition and depth into tank. If not broken (like mine) and the bottom of the outlet baffle, isn't close to the sludge level, I would wait. Also be sure there is an inlet baffle (tee). It prevents any scum from plugging inlet. Mine didn't have one. It was plugged with scum...

    Washing machine drywell questions

Thinking of doing a diy drywell for our washing machine, to ease load on septic. Questions: does the drywell need to be vented? Size? Thinking of a 30 or 55 gallon plastic drum. Size of holes in side of drum? Amount of gravel under and around drum? We have sandy soil, and maybe 3-4 loads of...

Sealing new outlet on old tank

The outlet duffle on my concrete septic tank was cracked and I replaced it. What's the best product to use to seal between the new baffle and the tank? The tank was broken out around the old pipe, and there is a 2-3 inch gap in places around the pipe. How should this be filled and sealed...

    Septic tank baffle size?

Just had our mtank pumped and the outlet baffle needs to be replaced. It's a 4" 1 piece baffle. The inlet had no baffle. Just a 3" pipe. I want to put an inlet baffle on, and replace the outlet baffle. Would it be a mistake to replace the 4" outlet baffle assembly, with a 3" tee and pipe?" I can...
