    Pipe dope on pex fitting

The material analysis shows zinc is the main ingredient. This would indicate some brass component corroded. Probably the fitting itself. The other materials might be salts in the water. Matl_analysis1 by hardwite posted Jun 30, 2019 at 1:29 PM Matl_analysis2 by hardwite posted Jun 30, 2019...

    Grundfoss circulation pump question

Update on the problem. It was trash in the Grundfoss check valve. I removed the pump, found small nodules of white material. Same as these pics: https://www.plumbingforums.com/threads/pipe-dope-on-pex-fitting.15005/ Since the original plumber put in a check valve downstream of the pump, I...

    Grundfoss circulation pump question

I have a UPS 15-55 SFC running in a residential hot water circulation system. The plumbing was drained for work and then refilled. When turning on the pump, three days after refill and air purge from the faucets, the grundfos seemed to work - I could hear water gurgling through and then (I...

    Pipe dope on pex fitting

I recently reworked a plumbing system on my 3 year old house. The plumbing system was installed by a licensed plumber. I noticed a white residue and build-up inside the pipes. The residue was formed in bubbles or nodules on the inside of the fittings. The material holds together but will...

    Bending PEX sticks

I talked to a PEX manufacturer and was informed that you cannot bend PEX sticks. Only PEX that comes in a roll. Does this sound right? The PEX in question is produced with the PEX-B manufacturing process (it has higher chlorine withstand, they call it PEX-R).

    electric plumbing valves

I called Honeywell. They state they do not provide recommendations on what valves to use. I also called the above phone number which is for SupplyHouse.com. They stated they do not have any valves for this application. They stated the valves they sell are for boiler systems and might have...

    electric plumbing valves

If you have a link to the other thread, please post it. Before posting this, I searched for 'electric actuated valve' and variants thereof, and did not find anything. I found some smart home shut-off valves, but that is not the right solution. I saw you recommended a Honeywell V8044A1044...

    electric plumbing valves

No response on this post. Maybe a different question: Has anyone used electrically actuated valves in their plumbing system? Recirc pumps seem common. How about electric valves?

    electric plumbing valves

I am looking at splitting my long hot water circulation loop into two smaller loops. One idea is to have an electric valve on each loop and open and close as needed to circulate the hot water. Does anyone have recommendations on electric valves - brands and models - or a good source for...

    What is Pex R?

A response from Nibco to my question on how it is manufactured: This is PEX-B, ALL PEX-b has Silane as an additive which chemically promotes the cross linking. All PEX-b uses a steam bath (high temperature, high humidity) as a curing process to accelerate the cross linking. I suppose they...

    What is Pex R?

I walked through another house today and saw the same PEX-R tubing, though in white, used for all of the plumbing (cold, hot, circulation loop). (I erred saying white is for radiant loops - I should have said orange; I don't think color matters anyhow).

    What is Pex R?

Nibco sent the datasheet attached in the first posting. I followed up with a question regarding its comparison to type A, B, or C. Here is the response: It would be closest to PEX B, however it has a better chemical compatibility vs chlorinated water at higher temperatures than standard PEX...

    Recirc system add a loop

Clarification: In my system today, the pump is pulling water from the circulation loop and pushing it into the water tank. In other words, the pump is the last component in the loop. I believe the one-lines I posted show this clearly. I have seen this arrangement in other system...

    Recirc system add a loop

This might be more in my price range. Is the site-built manifold made of pex and fittings? One idea is to route from tank to a manifold serving the following branches: Loop#1 (3/4" pex) Loop#2 (3/4") Sink#_bathRoom#1 (1/2") Shower_bathRoom#1 (1/2") This bathroom is directly in path of both...

    Recirc system add a loop

I estimate the downstairs loop will be ~209 feet with 16 T fittings. The upstairs loop will be 160 feet with 8 Ts and 6 90 degree elbows. All branches are probably 4 feet, rough estimate, and are 1/2 inch pex. The graphic does not accurately represent the number of appliances. The open...
