    I pulled apart a Kohler WAVE flush valve to replace the guts to stop it from constant flushing.     I use wirsbo all the time I actually had a house freeze this year with it and the only leak was where the home owner used a torch to try and thaw the pipe they actually melted it, otherwise house was froze solid for a few days no wirsbo breaks

    funky smell

    try cleaning the overflow in you sink that is the hole near the top edge of the bowl that prevents the sink from overflowing. fill the sink with a bleach water mix, fill the sink high enough that it runs down the hole into the drain, you can also use a bottle brush to get in their good luck.

You can judge the size of the roots by the size of the tree the roots mirror the leaves (i think that makes sense) roots will not effect plastic drain lines only older cast iron, clay and similar pipe the roots seep...

    Copper sulfate dissolves roots. If you get copper sulfate crystals flush them down your toilet and let them set over night. do this a few times a year or as required to keep your drain open it is good preventive maint.

    If fluctuating pressure is a problem maybe you should look into a pressure regulating valve. An thermal expansion would really only be needed if their is a backflow preventer or check valve installed in the incoming waterline the addition of one on the cold side of the hot water tank certianly...
