Opinions for best chop saw blade to cut Cast Iron soil pipe.

How old is the guy? Hand him a paper with instructions and watch him read it....if he holds it at arms length hand him a set of reading glasses and he may now cut pipe like a pro....Its fvng hard to admit you need glasses. Take a piece of pipe and watch the guy make a cut with the snap...

No cold water in apartment, please help!!

No plumber here but worked in a few buildings with this issue. Most often it as mentioned previously it is due to the routing of the pipes through a wall cavity where the ambient temps are 80°f and greater. However another cause that is often overlooked is a leaking shower valve where the...

    Smart Shut Off Valve

I would be very wary of the EcoNet, JMO If you hit the link it shows a bracket with a single hose clamp connection....I took one look at this and laughed to myself knowing how inadequate it would be at a glance. Then if you click on the vid they show a steel bracket that is much better suited...

    Smart Shut Off Valve

Ok here is another idea, Make a combination shut off and flow meter. That way you can have it send you a text or other alert when it detects a water flow above X amount, you then have the option to turn the water off or leave it on based on whether the house is on fire or just flooding ;-)

Water Heater installation botched? Slow leak at joint. PICS

Another option if you can't solder and don't want to go flex, would be to cut the horizontal line say 4" from the sharkbite and install say a 7" (whatever length is required to re-establish the vertical on the line from the wall) and reconnect the two pipes with a sharkbite straight coupling. I...

    TANKLESS WH LOSS

I was just trying to learn something about on demand heaters. It appears from Jamesplumbing reply, that (contrary to fishscreeners reply) they may indeed have some type of valve on the water line to throttle the flow to meet temperature demand when needed. What's your take on this Diehard...

    Removing Moen "Renzo" kitchen faucet

Thanks for the reply, Yeah I saw that size listed on the tools packaging, but I am worried the 7/8ths may be the second size down from the top of the adaptor and the nut may not reach far enough into the well....I guess I will find out Thursday :-)

    Removing Moen "Renzo" kitchen faucet

Hello all, I am a handyman, not a plumber and to prove it I bought and installed a Moen "Renzo" faucet about 3 months ago. Well got a message from the client showing the seal at the bottom where it swivels is popped out already. I remember looking at the tiny oring and plastic pieces and saying...

    TANKLESS WH LOSS

Do some/all, tankless heaters have a valve in the water line that "throttles" water flow based on the amount of heat demand at a given time? Or are they (by design) always able to keep up with the demand? Or in the event of not enough BTU available per gallon of flow, does the temperature simply...

    Removing stuck bathtub spout

Yeah I always try to not do plumbing work at all, due to liability issues even in houses. But when the plumbing is in apartments built in the 60s that have been converted and sold as townhouses by people to cheap to install unit isolating shut-offs at the stacks its a whole different level of...

    Removing stuck bathtub spout

Thanks for the reply, but sadly its not a set screw deal just old work, likely been there since it was built. PS. No need for further replies pretty much decided to go ahead and pass on this one and tell the property owner they need to go ahead and hire a plumber.

    Removing stuck bathtub spout

Thanks for the reply, agree on the taps...used to work as a car mechanic and have used a small impact to loosen frozen bolts hundreds of times by rapping very lightly. I could not believe the thread I read where the guy tried an 12 and they told him to use an 18 with an extension bar....it...

    Removing stuck bathtub spout

Hello all, Got a call from a realtor I work for on rental properties, this one is a 60s built apartment, now townhouse and the problem I am having is a bathtub spout with a leaky shower diverter. I have tried penetrant and heat with no luck but I am only using a small pair of channel locks and...

Do some/all plumbers have tools to solve this problem?

Had an Toyota Avalon and got an inspection ticket for the 3rd (center) brakelight being out. Part printed led and board was 175 and the labor was 4 hrs which worked out to 875 dollars to have it done in a shop. Had to pull the rear sidepanels, rear airbags, back seat, and a bunch of other stuff...

Do some/all plumbers have tools to solve this problem?

A car radiator generally has what is known as a "Drain Petcock" the part you turn to drain universally turns inward (clockwise) to drain and if you try to remove it by loosening it you will indeed break it off as it is captive at radiator side. The good news is that the entire petcock assembly...

Clogged upstairs shower drain, finding pea gravel

As said already get a small section of cable (small drain auger as sold at home depot or a hardware store) and run it down the drain cranking and pushing as you advance the handle on the cable. If the end with the small auger on the end will not go down then simply reverse it and use the small...

    Water leak issue

I had a gas heater die once on Christmas weekend at my parents house. Took the burners off the stove from my apartment and hung them in the main duct and wired them up to the AC disconnect.....Ah to be 18 and carefree again
