    Air gap of 1” IS required. And believe me, we encounter AC and acidic condensate lines frequently that clog with slime sludge. There are commercial tablets on the market to inhibit slime.

    the head and arm: just get a normal shower arm and any new head you like...there is no retrofit for that PP ball arm. The cartridge and style is the Avante. look up price pfister Avante.

    beveled blue or orange slip joint washers. Just buy a new plastic tubular trap kit with the colored washers included. And buy a new branch tailpiece while you're at it and get rid of that stupid offset. While you are at it put in a dishwasher airgap to make a smart, sanitary installation choice...

    slip joints work in all directions. The crappy translucent bevel washers are not very good. There are blue or orange bevel slip joint washers that work very well.

    "best" is in the eye of the installer. We use j hangers, channel with channel clamps, or 2 hole pipe straps. Just depends. Vinyl obviously won't hold anything by itself.

    1. shower drain is supposed to be 2" to modern standards. (I have a 50's house with same too-small drain) We cut out everything below and start fresh.
