    Is this considered a s-trap?

That also looks like a 2" trap on an 1 1/2" tub waste (a 2" x 1 1/2" bushing on the inlet of the trap).

    Unknown substance in drain line

That looks like a chunk of a combination of things that I've seen in sewers before. Some grease and organic products mixed with detergents (presumably powdered). Drop some in a bucket of water and spray a hose at it and see if it starts to make suds. It has hard spots and parts that crumble...

Who IS Huma Mahmood Abedin ?

Throwing your vote away. A very interesting idea. If your candidate wins your district by popular vote, but the delegate decides to pick the other candidate for the electoral vote, then hasn't your vote been thrown away? If you don't believe in your candidate, but you are just supporting the...

    Grease Trap Installation Opinions Needed

Here's my dilemma. The plumbing contractor for a new building installed a grease trap for the cafe. 50 gallon Smith semiautomatic. The grease trap sits in the mechanical room under the cafe. On a walk-through for the building I noticed that there was no flow control before the grease trap and a...

    Help identifying check/stop valve stem

Show a picture of the shower valve without trim and the cartridge to confirm the manufacturer. Although it's possible that the stops were a separate add on and have no relationship to the shower valve. In that case, you may have to put new stops on or conduct a lengthy internet search for...

Shower leaking, sealant used in cavity of wall

It sounds like you are describing plumbers putty packed inside the escutcheon and valves. Does it look like this?

Dry-vented sink enters branch drain question

I would have to assume and interpret their logic as meaning that the non-compliant picture shows an offset in the pipe (90 ell) when the sink is serving as a vent for the branch. The offset is below the flood level rim of the fixture and that would make it illegal, even though it has a wash out...

Hemp and paste legal in the USA?

I think frodo was intending to post that on a different thread. it happens.

    Testing / Water Quality

If they are reading the TDS (total dissolved solids) in your drinking water then the "9" registering should mean 9 ppm(parts per million). You can buy your own TDS meter for anywhere between $80 to $400 to do your own readings. On a TDS scale, 9 ppm is in the optimum range meaning the filtration...

But, seriously...how do you feel about teflon tape?

Hemp and paste legal in the USA?

You wouldn't happen to be trying to fit an IPS(NPT) into an NPS(straight thread) would you? If so, you would end up with the scenario pictured above on the far right and have an incomplete seal. There is also no way to tell what your level of experience is with plumbing.

Hemp and paste legal in the USA?

Just re-read what I wrote with a clean slate and no preconceived ideas of how threaded connections seal. Also, this diagram may help.
  15. Caduceus

Hemp and paste legal in the USA?

The reason why I think there may be an installation error is because the tape is an aid to the connection but is not necessary all of the time. The sealed connection comes from the threads and thread sealant works primarily as a lubricant and secondarily as a sealant. When connecting threaded...

Hemp and paste legal in the USA?

Hemp and marijuana are not the same. Use the thread sealant as frodo suggested, but also look into the possibility that the pipes are not being joined properly (installer error). Threading 2" pipes can take a bit of effort and you haven't stated if this is for water supply, drainage, gas, steam...

Long-lasting intermittent "drip" sound behind/under kitche sink after use

Additionally, just so that you are not tricked by which pipes (water supply or drain) are expanding you should try pouring two buckets of hot water, consecutively, down the drain before running the hot water from the faucet. If you start to hear the ticking, then it may be your drain expanding...

    which one does not belong

It still sounds to me like there is a clog/bottleneck/belly causing the problem.

    which one does not belong

What I'm saying is that the overflows are happening at the bathroom and the piping from the bathroom should be no less than 3" and possibly 4", correct. So any pipes continuing down stream would have to be the same size or larger than 3" or 4" and it is assumed that the volume of water from the...

    which one does not belong

Well it sounds like you've ruled out a clog or a belly being the problem and the camera revealed no other issues, so one would then think that there is a volume-to-pipe-size conflict. If that is the case, then I don't see how connecting any other branches further downstream would resolve the...
