    Toilet Plaque

BACK GROUND: I posted in January about a 1.6 gl. toilet that was around 7 years old. Yet, despite a full tank and properly operating flush valve, it was not evacuating the bowl effectively. Water Quality - Not hard water. ACTION TAKEN: The toilet was replaced. (I have a happy customer) I also...

    Toilet - Replacement recommendation

Situation: The current toilet is a Kohler with a canister flush valve. It is only around 7 years old; however, the customer is complaining that it is a poor flusher. My term, not theirs, but you get the idea. I have been there a couple of times, have tried to make minor adjustment as possible...

Kitchen Sink with Garbage Disposal and dishwasher

Kitchen Sink with garbage disposal and dishwasher: I always rough in a double bowel sink with two 1-1/2" drains. One for the dishwasher and garbage disposal (Dishwasher discharges directly into the GD). I do this because I figure a horizontal drain to a Tee would not be enough to handle the...

Main Water Supply Trunk Line Sizing

Thoughts on sizing of Main Water Supply Trunk Line. Situation: 1) Single residential house 2) Supply line into the house is 3/4 copper 3) Meter size is 5/8 ( Easy enough to change over to 3/4) 4) Static pressure 55 lbs. Concerns: 1) Pressure & supply drop for the two full baths when in use 2)...

    3" x 3 x 2" 1/4 Bend

Am I understanding the IPC correctly? This fitting CAN NOT be used in a WC application whereas the 2" inlet would be for a vertical dry vent and the 3" would connect to the closet bend?

    Bathroom Drain Lines

Situation: Existing bathroom with no room to vent shower. Code for my area is IPC. PDFs and the jpgs are the same. Whichever work for you. Your thoughts on this drain line layout. Any issues with the WC drain entering the stack above the 2" drain? TIA

Side inlets on "Old" style toilet drains

So why are they no longer around? I know the knee jerk answer most likely has to do with venting of fixtures and drain clogs ... but really? They were in place for years with little problem. Probably no more then any other type of bathroom drain line. Any "Old Timers" have a perspective on this...

    Faucet: Dripping / Washer replacement

Situation: Dripping faucet - Customer wants it repaired, not replaced. I've always replaced faucets. Repairing this looks straight forward but, I've never done it. My perception of the steps: 1) Remove the cap on the handle to expose the screw that secures the handle to the stem. 2) Remove the...

Bathroom fixtures: How many can be supplied by 3/4" PEX

Situation: Failed copper feed for two bathrooms back to back The least intrusive repair is to thread 3/4" PEX down to the basement Supply pressure is a solid 50psi Question: Will one 3/4" PEX adequately supply two bathroom groups? Note: The...

    Outdoor shower: Code for this?

Situation: Customer wants an outdoor shower for rinsing off from a pool. There is no pool house or other building structure, just a free standing cedar shower stall Gray water: Going into subsurface area for ground absorption There are no wells in the area or other like factors Ignoring...

Hot Water Heater: Flexible water lines vs Soldered connection?

I am used to soldered pipe connections for water heaters, but what are your thoughts on using the flexible stainless steel FIP to make the connections? Up side of the flexible piping: Easier to make the connection Easier change out of the water heater in the future Down side of flexible...

Recognize this bath valve and spray unit

I cannot find the Mfg. name, and the number on the spray unit does not help either. The product code on the spray head appears to be: A112.18.1 I expect that all items are from the same manufacturer. Thank you in advance for your help.

Back fill for under slab drain line

Code calls for no rocks around a drain line. Typically there is 4" of 3/4 crushed stone under a 4" residential basement slab. As a drain line runs under a slab it passes through the stone and up through the concrete, but passing through the stone seems to be in conflict with the plumbing code...

    Vent for toilet

Why is a 2" line needed for a WC vent? I thought it could be 1/2 of the dia. of the drain line being vented. So if a WC is on a 3" line, wouldn't the vent only be 1-1/2"? Note: IPC code in my area.
