    Shutoff valve handle - gone!

Both boxes have valves. But one has never had a handle and the other one did, so that's the one I've always used. The meter is about a foot away.

    Shutoff valve handle - gone!

I have a hose Bibb that cracked and is leaking slowly. I went and bought a new one, brought it home, went to the shutoff and found that the handle was gone. No idea what happened to it. It was the there the last time I used it a couple months ago. So that's a mystery that no one on this forum...

New anti-siphon valve on hose bib leaks

It wasn't cross-threaded, I'm certain. I screwed it on hand tight. It was leaking when I turned it on. I tightened further at that point. Still leaking. I guess I'll need to start over when I have time. Sent from my iPhone using Plumbing Forum

New anti-siphon valve on hose bib leaks

As in the title, just installed a new vacuum breaker on a new ball valve hose bib. The valve leaks where the valve threads onto the hose bib (left side of pic). Is this just normal for these valves? Or should I take the bib and valve back and ask for an exchange on both? Thx Sent from my...

What's this on my hose bib?

I want to replace the hose bib and backflow preventer, which is leaky. There is a clamp around the pipe holding on to some sort of rod or something that runs alongside the pipe and back into the wall. I have no idea what this is. Can anyone enlighten me? Sent from my iPhone using Plumbing Forum

Slow rise in toilet tank water level

The adjustment screw on the float had a little bit more room to raise and that seems to have solved the problem. The water level sits about an inch below the top of the overflow tube, and is remaining constant. To compensate, I adjusted the adjustable flapper for less water to flow out of the...

Slow rise in toilet tank water level

I see what you are saying. I did adjust that to what I believe is the proper height when I installed, such that the critical level mark is one inch above the top of the overflow valve. Are you suggesting that I raise or lower the entire assembly on the shaft, as opposed to just the float itself?

Slow rise in toilet tank water level

I'm not sure I understand about compressing the cylinder low enough. Is this referring to when the instructions direct to hold the float under the water for 30 seconds while the tank fills? I any case, I've got room to raise the float more so I can try that. Thx

Slow rise in toilet tank water level

I just replaced the guts of my toilet with a fluidmaster replacement kit (fill valve, flush valve, etc). Everything seemed to work just fine. But I noticed that the water level in the tank is rising very slowly. As an example, I flushed it about 2.5 hours ago and the level in tank rose about 1/4"...

Hi, I need to remove the hot water copper line from my water heater to move it (long story). How do I do this without draining the tank? Thx

    Water Heater Vacation Mode

Got the new GeoSpring water heater installed this weekend. One of the features of the new heater is a "vacation mode" which you can program when you are going to be away - it will only heat the water to 50 degrees and the day before you come back from vacation, it will heat back up to full temp...

    Clicking Noise While Sink Draining

This is almost always caused by the vent stack not having enough clearance around it, and as water drains, the pipe rubs against the wood or drywall - particularly when it's hot water, which causes expansion of the pipe material. It's annoying, and my average-quality construction house suffers...

What is this on my hot water line?

oh boy. I haven't gotten into the walls near the heater yet. So how on earth do I tell if one of these HRUs is installed? It looks like the sensor isn't connected to anything other than the pipe. Does that mean the HRU isn't connected/installed? My house was built in 92 but the heater is from...

Heat pump water heater drain lines

According to code here in Austin, anything that can produce a spark needs to be elevated, and the inspector says that this applies to the heating element in an electric water heater (despite the fact that it has a metal cover that is sealed tightly around it and a plastic cover over that). So...

What is this on my hot water line?

This is the hot water line out from my water heater. I'm going to be replacing the heater and the line, and came across this contraption on the line where it enters the wall. Anyone know what it is??

    More water heater installation angst

Awesome - that's exactly what I needed to know. Thanks!

    More water heater installation angst

I don't have a pic, but I've created a little diagram to help illustrate. I'm replacing a water heater and discovered that all of the pipes - cold water supply and hot water out - are bad, all the way to the wall due to some poor plumbing work when it was installed 17 years ago. So, I need to...

    Are compression fittings reliable enough?

    More water heater installation angst

So, today was the day I was going to install the new water heater. I got a later start then intended, and when I finally got the old pipe installation of the cold water supply and hot water out, I saw that the flex and solder connections were fairly caked up with rust and corrosion, all the way...
