best service call job a plumber wants to do

The best call is the one that only you can do, no one else has the time, knowledge, or equipment to dot he job. Every plumber can install a sink, every plumber can change out a water heater. That's my theory any way, but Johns right learn the trade first. Know that there is no free lunch and you...

Dry Leak Testing Method Reviewed In Reeves

LOL!!! I beg to differ sir, I can identify leaks under any slab and repair them without ever breaking out a shovel. Please don't ask me the details of how I do this as it took me a lot of time and money to learn and develop. But as with everything there are limitations. For example inside a...

Dry Leak Testing Method Reviewed In Reeves

I've seen this being used by a few municipalities in my area and I understand the concept and equipment. My question is can this system detect leaks under a slab on grade foundation and if it can, How?

Kohler Shower valve diverter malfunction mystery

... Well I'm out of ideas. I don't work/know anything about the pump system your working with sorry I'm no help there. But IMO you may be onto something with the bad valve idea, it happens. In my experience if you have two valves the exact same on the same system and one is functioning fine and...

    Non toxic PVC cement

Correct me if I'm wrong here but the UPC always differs to first the manufacturer recommendations and then that catch all authority of jurisdiction mess. Should have that line memorized by now... anyway it the stamps make it available for that manufacturer to sell the product even if it may or...

Kohler Shower valve diverter malfunction mystery

Also I don't think it could be a pressure issue between the hot and cold caused at the boiler because that would effect everything equally, ex: the exact same valve in the same system. If that's not true then I'm going to have some major internal logic issues to sort out.

Kohler Shower valve diverter malfunction mystery

Thanks for that explanation Kultulz. So correct me if I'm wrong but I think you suggested it and I just want to be clear. If the tee diverter and valve work on fluid dynamics and the two ports offer different outputs the valve body being wrong side up could cause Jacks problem, right? I think...

Kohler Shower valve diverter malfunction mystery

That is correct there is an extra hole in the metal collar that a plastic pin protrudes from the plastic backing plate. Ive never touched this model before so Im going off of Kohlers diagrams and spec sheets. According to the spec sheets this valve can be reversed if used in a stand up shower...

    Non toxic PVC cement

Down here in Texas we have the same code pertaining to the glue primer can not be one. My understanding based on " that guy heard from a guy that said he use to be an inspector" lol. Is that an issue came up with guys not using primer where necessary and blaming this type of stuff to try and get...

    Stripped piece

Agree with above get the chrome off and see if you have something more to work with. When I come across these I know the worst thing that's going to happen is I open the wall and replace the valve, so I'll get pretty rough on the valve to get those stems out. The last time I was successful and...

Kohler Shower valve diverter malfunction mystery

I scraped the build up out to see what it was collecting on. I also removed the other nipple which appeared to be matching and had same amount of wear so I assume they where bought and installed together. I didn't find anything in the affected nipple and the other was also just a straight nipple...

Kohler Shower valve diverter malfunction mystery

I do not know all the nuts and bolts on how the diverter works exactly so I would like to see a more detailed explanation if any one is willing to give us one. In my thought process is the valve limits the water pressure to a certain flow rate say 5gpm. When you activate the diverter which is on...

Kohler Shower valve diverter malfunction mystery

This was a 3/4 brass nipple we found in a homes water heater. Customer complained of no water pressure to hot water fixtures. This was not a dielectric and the build up had nothing to catch on, no screen or anything like that, it was just a straight brass nipple. I do remodels myself also and a...

Kohler Shower valve diverter malfunction mystery

I'd make sure the system has proper hammer arrest installed. Double and triple check the valve is installed properly not upside down or something crazy. Your discription sounds like you've narrowed it down to a pressure issue at that particular fixture, if that's true can you read pressure at...

rusty pipes that extends out too much

Ive seen this before. The pieces your talking about are provided with that fixture to make the transition from stub out to faucet. Pretty nifty design but I agree with the spacing issue, it just looks bad. I did as referred above and opened the wall and made the rough in piping match the fixture...

This came out of my water heater!!

Ive seen all sorts of stuff come out of tanks nothing just like this. Looks like it could be build up off a heating element or the anode rod. I imagine if it was a major issue you would have found out a different way like some one getting sick. But if it was my house Id have the water tested...

    Toilet Gargle

Had similar issue with a customer of mine.... started typing that story and figured get to the point. I would start off with a dye test in the tank in order to figure out if water is making its way through or not. Just a gargle with no water moving through could just be air trapped in the tank...

    When To Replace Kitchen Plumbing

If there is no immediate issue, but you have concern obviously I would say use your best judgement. Most plumbing manufacturers represent a 30yr lifespan for there products some more some less but 30 seems to be the accepted time. Copper pipe can last longer but ive seen it burst sooner. The...

    Installing new clawfoot tub faucet

Can't get much easier then this one. You already got some shark bites in there so can remove those and replace with 1/2" pex connect pex to fixture with 1/2"x3/4" female adapter and your good to go, individual shutoffs in place so you won't even have to turn off the main supply to the house. If...
