How to Test for Hot/Cold Water Crossover

With a thermometer like the kind you might have in your kitchen for meats or for candy. Measure or at the faucet that is closest to the water heater.

    New Pressure Relief Valve Leaks

Thanks for the education! I never knew that. I do not have an expansion tank on my water heater. Is there something to be gained by having one if I am not having any problems?

    New Pressure Relief Valve Leaks

Can you educate me on why having a PRV will cause this to happen? If he had an expansion tank and no PRV, would it not happen? I don't know if it is new code or possibly a regional thing, but I rarely see expansion tanks on water heaters.

    New Pressure Relief Valve Leaks

Is the water coming out of the pipe attached to the T&P valve, or from somewhere else. Also, what is the temperature of the water coming out of the closest faucet? Do you know what the water pressure is in your home?

Please help, house backed up, septic coming up

Not an expert, but my guess is that he hasn't run his snake far enough. Rather than going through the vent stack, do you have a curb trap or a clean out in your basement? With a curb trap, you should see the top of a pipe coming up vertically in your yard somewhere. If you have one, he can run...

Thanks. I actually found a similar video when I went to your website.

How to Test for Hot/Cold Water Crossover

Before the tank less was installed, did you have the same problem? If not, and assuming that the only plumbing work that was done was removing the old water heater, and connecting the new, any crossover would have to be in the new piping that that same installer installed.

The link in post #1 says "video is private". I would like to see the product in use.

Help! Stupid question. Half inch Galvanized Pipe

Not an expert, but I do work with threaded black pipe from time to time. If there was no union fitting on that pipe, your "loosening" actually loosened one end and tightened the other. The same would apply when you "re-tightened" it. The only way to know whether it will leak or not is via...

Help with Gerber toilet flapper or flush valve leak

You may want to rub a scrungie sponge around the top of the flush valve, where the flapper seals. There may be some sediment buildup there.

    Strange situation.

Frodo - I have a high efficiency gas furnace, and it certainly does create condensate. I believe it comes from the extraction of heat from the exhaust gases.

    Strange situation.

A stand alone water heater should not be releasing any water anywhere. A furnace, on the other hand, will release condensate, but only when it is running.

Advice - New Moen shower trim

If memory serves, the longer tube was for when your tub had a tiled wall (thick wall) and the shorter tube was for when your tub was an acrylic material (thin wall).

Advice - New Moen shower trim

Don't those trim kits come with both a short and a long chrome tube? In any case, I would suggest calling Moen's tech support people. They are extremely helpful in solving most issues.

Branford white gas direct vent water heater issue

Thanks again. I believe I have it fixed. Not sure how it would have happened, but it seems like the pilot was not aimed directly at the burner. I adjusted it, and it fired right up, and seems to be working perfectly now. Again, thanks for your help.

Branford white gas direct vent water heater issue

It heated for about 30 minutes, the burner shut off, and then it would only light intermittantly. I am going to try cleaning the tube that takes gas to the pilot to see if there might be a partial clog in that that is causing the pilot flame to be smaller than normal. If that doesn't correct...

Branford white gas direct vent water heater issue

Update - I removed and cleaned the burner assembly and tube from the gas valve. Replaced it. Now, the pilot lights and stays lit, but there is a long delay (literally a minute or more) before the burner lights. It seems to me that the pilot light is not large enough or strong enough or close...
