I've seen a lot of YouTube videos showing the installation of tankless heaters and all of them show to use copper/brass tubing and fittings. Is there any reason why this is necessary, could I simply use flexible hoses to connect the hot and cold water lines to the tankless heater the same way that these types of hoses connect my current water heater to the hot/cold inlets?

What type of flexible hose? Are you referring to a braided, stainless steel flexible hose? That is what I used. Just remember don't bend it so tight as to cause a kink in it.

That might be what I'm referring too, I honestly don't know as I'm a complete noob. Is there a possibility that you could post a link to one? Also, what brand of tankless heater did you buy, I'm still investigating models.

aahhh that's great Richard Wilford if you have check all videos on you tube and got information but also have found the best place yet about the water heater that helps to all of you to with tips of installing and using of water heater for that you have to go tanklesswaterheaterworld.com

I opted for the Navien tankless, and as you can see from the picture, it was a simple install and the venting is PVC, and 98% efficient. Water heater repair (14).JPG

Navien NPE series is the best I have come across in my 44 years as a plumber.
I have dozens of them installed and find them to far outclass all brands.
The Noritz new condensing models come close but do not have a buffer tank, so until they copy Navien, are not as good.

IMPORTANT: Always use a tankless valve kit directly to the inlet and outlets first. That way the unit can be descaled quite simply in the future.
