My father said it is oxidization or oxidation, I am not sure what these mean or which one he stated. Could this mean that the pipes are leaking water? I did a little research, and Cupric Chloride came to mind. Another thing, I retain a bitter, smell in my nose, I am not sure if it is related to this and the water. It could be a reach and it might not be the case. Any help is appreciated! And sorry if this is a simple question that could be answered. We had a leak before, but it was fixed. I am wondering if another part of the pipes were missed in the repair.

Oxidation. It's basically a reaction the copper and oxygen/water. When you see calcium or a white substance. That's a sign of a leak.

It’s also a sign the plumber didn’t wipe the flux off the copper when he was soldering.

i would tke a rag and clean the areas in question......then see if it comes back one poser said it maybe from left over flux... that's a good possibility we had a green build up on our brass/copper fittings and it was determined that it was a calcium issure we were having problems with water quality so we are installing a waterfiltration/softner system
