60" tub in a 60" alcove

Hi all.

I'm remodeliing the bathrooom of a home constructed in the early 1960s and would like to install a 60" cast iron tub (Kohler Villager) in a space that seems to be just barely 60". This room appears to have been redone at least once as the current tub is fiberglass and the sub-floor (seen from underneath) clearly has been cut/patched. Anyway, the room is barely 60" wide, tubs are 60" and I'm hunting for the insight of pros to fit a tub into this spot. Any help is appreciated.

How are you measuring it. From stud to stud or existing drywall to drywall.

I'm measuring stud to stud. The existing tub is still in place but I've removed the shower kit/walls and so can measure stud to stud.

After my first post a friend suggested standing the tub on end in the alcove and then laying flat by a combination of temporarily moving/removing non-load bearing studs and manuevering between the studs. Are these legitimate secret methods?

Yes if you have room to move the studs that probably would be the best way to go since this is a heavy cast iron tub. If it was fiberglass you could of picked the tub up with two people and layed it in the cove flat and slowly let it down in between. Good luck on your project.

I have the same situation, need to remove everything and restore the floor and tub as well, rather do that outside.
