Good Morning ,

yesterday I replace an old moen 1225 cartidge and handle set hoping to eliminate a humming noise when mixing the hot & cold shower. The noise is still present. One year ago I removed the shower head and the noise stopped.

Is this a diverter problem or a pressure problem with the hot water piping. ?

Thanks

There was a thread on this just the other day and the guy ended up I believe changing the tub spout as it only did it when he diverted the water up to the shower and that took care of his noise. Maybe check your shower head first like you said as something could be in the head. Let us know what you find.

Hello again,

Last week I asked moen for a new diverter, the woman on the phone suggested I remove and clean the spool valve with hot water & vinegar. I did that and the problem is still there, when I remove the shower head the noise is gone ??

the noise comes from behind the cartridginside the wall. Could the rough in valve be bad, I see left and right adjustments when i removed the spool ?

You saw L/R adjustment?
You maybe referring to stop valves, no adjustment required. Those slotted stems should be horizontal for open and vertical to close.
Replace the diverter tub spout.

May have misquoted. Those are found on the newer positemp valves. Yours maybe screw type. Should be full open and have spring with a floating seat. Could be cause of whine if not full open.

I opened hot & cold stops all the way, seems to be less noise. Regarding shower water, I think the tankless water heater doesn't supply enough HW for everyone in the house.
