the rules may differ from state to state...if its just offices in mass you don't need containment ....only chem feeds in commercial kitchens....chem feed boilers....irrigation systems....and fire protection ,janitors soap stations
if there are research labs that's another storycheck with your dept of enviormental protection.....they regulate what backflow goes were.....they are te ones who survey the bld...and test the backflows
a lot of achitects put them on the plans but really don't know the regulations.....just had this happen at work regular office bld they installed 2 4' rpz lots of labor and big money for all of it ......project manager said architect
woudnt sign it off unless they were there...now they are tested 2 times a year for 400buck for the life ofe the bld unless we rip them out

Jurisdictional rules apply.
I do not thin UPC has specific requirement, so local authorities rule.
In the S.F. Bay Area, our water supplier wants all commercial building to have BFPs, even single story.

i just went to one of our of campus blds to repair a backflow preventer and there is a large renovation...the engineer wont sign off on the job unless there are 2 testable backflow devices feeding each HAND sink......not needed
crazy money spent if people would get educated on this part of plumbing/drinking water/enviormental codes it would be better....check your dept of enviormental protection...regulations that's who regulates Massachusetts
not sure if your state has this

Around here it is the same as breplum said. All commercial buildings need them. On the hand sinks we had to put
on mixing valves, no backflows.
