Good afternoon, I have a Flotec FPSE9000 1/2HP sewage pump that has been giving me issues. It was installed in January 2013 and looks like after 5 years it's starting to give out. It was working fine early this morning but now it just hums. The pump has a steel motor housing and a plastic impeller housing. The sewage pit is located under the sink of the bathroom. It was quite difficult getting that sink out of the way. The pump may be jammed but when I got access to the pit, I did smell a burning smell for a couple seconds coming from the pit. I also have a Meyers cast iron sewage pump that has been sitting outside for a few years experiencing all types of weather. The problem with that one was the float switch melted off and I think the pump kept humming. It didn't kill the motor but there was also a burning smell coming from that one as well. It still works but it's 15 years old and has a possible worn motor. Plus I think the seal or gasket that keeps the water out of the electrical area is probably worn out as well. I was originally going to re-use that Meyers pump again since it still works but my mom thinks that we should buy a brand new one and now I'm having second thoughts. I don't know when that Meyers pump will fail. It's been in service for about 10 years and out of service for 5 years. It's just been sitting outside. I don't want to have to go through removing the sink again and doing all the plumbing work again if that fails. I might use that pump for something else. What do you think? Is it better to buy a brand new cast iron sewage pump? I was thinking of buying a 1/2 HP Simer 3963 rugged cast iron. I saw one for $239.99

I wouldn't take a chance with that old pump especially with what you have to do to get to it. We always installed Hydromatic Pumps and had good luck.

I'll second the Hydromatic suggestion. They are very good pumps, unlike anything Flotec.

Yeh do it once, I changed mine about 2 years ago
I think it was a liberty (maserator) I also changed
the check valve and isolating ball valve mine was under a 400
Lb washing machine I think for the pump and fittings it was just
under 400 bucks
