I am replacing a very old shower/tub handle, and also put up new tile. With the new tile and backer board the handle doesn't reach the valve. Anyone know what extension would fit on this valve pictured?

Looks like Price Pfister Avante.

Great valve. have the same in my shower. 20+ yrs and I have never replaced the cartridge.
Does the old trim and handle look like this?

This is in a house we bought a month and a half ago that needed to be completely remodeled, and me thinking this would be easily replaced I tossed the old trim and handle. I think you might be right about the valve though.

Now the second question after searching around, I need an extension kit since the valve is too far behind the tile/backer board. What exactly do I need for that?

If you remodeled the bathroom did you use the old shower faucet? If you threw the trim and handle away what are you going to do about that? If you replaced the faucet and need an extension what brand did you put in?

It's Okay. We're all guilty of not reading the original posted question.

I have never seen an extension for that valve stem.

Story time.

Had a customer who bought an old house and dumped a ton of money into it .
new tile floors, new kitchen cabinets , sinks, toilets. looked nice.
New tile in 2 bathrooms. left the old 100 year old 2 handle valves.
Then he wanted me to fix the drip. They were beyond repair.

Had to open the tile and put in 2 new Moen Positemp valves.

Look for some trim that might be concaved, where the face of the plate does into the finished wall. Moen has some. maybe you can modify it to fit.

Yup that is what happened to me. Luckily the worst case scenario would be to go into the sheetrock behind the shower and put in a new valve. Of course I do not want to have to cut into my hallway wall if I do not need to.

I have a delta handle that doesn't fit without an extension so I will have to look for another trim.

Found an extension kit for the avante valve. I will install it tomorrow and let you guys know how it goes for future thread readers. Thanks for the help David.

Last Update: This is the trim and extension kit my plumber found. I forgot to take a picture of the box, but Price Pfister customer service is great and they gave me all of the model numbers that would work with this valve.
