Heading to Las Vegas as soon as the wife gets her stuff together.
Going to see a concert. Some famous old country boy.

I'm going to San Diego to pull a permit. I'll wave as we pass in the highway.

Glad your father-in-law wasn't injured, Chris. I hate when people feign illness or injury. My mother will feign low blood sugar when she wants someone to get her something. She will be perfectly fine and then when she sees someone nearby she will throw her head back and pretend to be feeling sick/weak-- only she doesn't realize that sometimes we see her before she starts playing sick. Growing up, I never understood why she used to accuse me of faking being sick but now I realize it's because she fakes being sick.

I had a fall the other day, but fortunately was just bruised and sprained my ankle a bit. My brother's stupid puppy (who has gotten bigger than our russel terrier now) tripped me on one side (I was going through the door sideways to try to keep him out but he slipped in) and then the little bugger ran around my legs to the other side and jumped up on me, knocking me down. I twisted my ankle and bruised my leg up. I bought a spike and covered braided steel cord so the hellion can be tethered when my brother is at work. He's been especially bothersome while I've been trying to take care of the rottweiler. She had a tumor on her leg that she chewed on so they had to cut it off. She gets meds every 8 hours and then the akita mutt gets meds twice a day for her thyroid. It was also time for their monthly heartworm meds-- and one of the cats has been sick and needed extra care, but he seems to be feeling better now.

I've got family in San Diego! I think one of my cousins is a doctor there (can't remember which hospital). He programs the pacemakers when they are put in. Some of my cousins used to work at Sea World (I think one of them might still work there).

In a bit of good news, my cholesterol and thyroid are back to normal levels & my doctor gave me the name & number of a good lawyer to deal with the insurance company over the car accident I had in January.

I'm sitting at city hall trying to pull a permit. This city sure is backwards.

How long did the permit take?

Do many munis and counties have online permitting available?

Quite a few of them do in my area, though I have never tried to use that service.

I was at the city for 6 hours between departments, everything now has to go through stormwater and drainage departments no matter what it is. After six hours I had my plans rejected because I didn't call out a planter as a planter. It had no call out but was drawn as a planter with curbs and all, he said "Well how do I know this isn't inside a building?" I have to go back on Monday with my corrected plan and re submit. He wouldn't let me hand draw the word planter.

Nothing online here that I know of. And the bigger cities here its a wait all day game.

Wow. That sounds absolutely asinine. No wonder you want to leave.
Where I live, they say things aren't supposed to be hand-drawn, but the inspector actually allows it because it saves time.

Phish, I just finally got my permit today. four 6 hour days at the city and an hour today. Process was submit plans to four different departments, come back for corrections with my engineer, all corrections done. Come back again for more corrections (at this point I think they are making stuff up). Come back and argue that items submitted are correct and per their approved material list. Finally win argument and get approval to pull permit. Pull permit.

All this was to show the location of a 4" fire service tap on an existing 12" line in a parking lot.

 And now the customer wants to know why the simple 4" tap is going to cost them $100,000!

I charged 600 to pull the permit, grossly underestimated. And they complained about the price.

They always complain about the price. It's always too expensive. They don't ever think that you have to make a living dealing with people who are always trying to get you to willingly take paycut.

For that 600 I.

Drove an hour each way to the city for four days.
went from department to department sitting and waiting six hours each day when I could have been working for money.
Paid 15 dollars a day for parking because there is no free parking in San Diego.
Drove down a 5th day to pay for the permit.
Driving down again today for a pre construction meeting.

So in all

12+ hours on the road burning fuel
26 hours at city or in meetings

And then I will be taxed to death on that 600. Probably made less than minimum wages on this end-ever but this is what we have to do to make money here. Have to take the bad with the good.

Some cities here are a quick 15 minute process. Changes everywhere you go. Problem is we have about 150 cities within southern California where we cover so it is almost impossible to know what each one wants.

Looks like the riots er I mean protests have come to LA? Doing doughnuts in a stolen car and spray painting on buildings is a peaceful protest.

I am sitting in the emergency waiting room right. I fell from my garage ceiling and landed on my head. It's pretty hard so I think I'm okay. They want to run a catscan just to be safe. I took an ambulance ride here. Damn this font is so tiny on my cell phone. I was taking down the boxes of Christmas lights and stuff.
