There are a few guys here that are self employed.

I am not one of them, or wish to be one of them, sorry! :D

That's alright no problem just wanted some advice that's all I am about to start my NVQ Level 3 in plumbing studies and really enjoying plumbing so far!!

I am self employed. Have been for a little over five years now.

That good then thanks for replying! I am hoping to be self employed in the future i will be starting my NVQ level 3 plumbing studies in September and then work for a company and then start my own is is the best way to start out? I wanted an apprenticeship but there is nothing close to me! Do you have any advice? and how did you start out?
Thanks!!

I have been self employed for over 40 years. I'm retired but still working. The retiring part of being self employed doesn't always work out like one would like. Plan ahead for the future is my best advice and get some experience under your belt.

Thanks that's some great advice! I know what I want to be it's just getting there is the tricky bit!! :)
Thanks again! :)

Like speed bump said do everything you can to set your retirement up. You don't get a pension working for yourself. Also get all the experience you can while getting paid to do it.

So what do you do then? Just set up a Savings account? Will I still get state pension? (I live in England) I am trying to get experience but there is nothing out there close to me and I don't drive yet ( test booked for 02/09/14!!!!)
Thanks for replying :)

I set up an IRA and 401k for my company. I also opened up a couple retirement investment accounts that I have money auto debited to every month like anyone else that works at a company would. That and my goal is to own a few more homes by the time I retire to have a source of income.

Retirement to me is the scariest part of owning your own company.

I also incorporated my company so that now I am an employee and pay into social security and any other so called government benefit.

You're in England? Will you be working in England? The replys so far are for the United States. You need to find out how the British system works.
