Hello, I was planning on buying a battery powered back-up sump pump in case of power failure. A few days ago, we lost power for about 10 hours, and the water level in the pit only came up so far and stopped. So, my basement did not flood. Is there some type of overflow built into the under-foundation drainage system? Thanks to all who can offer any input into my question! Johnnyfever

could be the water level stopped rising because that was the level of the ground water.

There is no overflow built in.. where would it flow to? If it did flow somewhere, why would you need a sump pump? I hope the laws of gravity haven't changed on me again..
