I had a contractor build me a shower where I previously had a smaller shower stall. He laid cement board over the plywood subfloor and then tiled and grouted over that and said the floor was done - no liner, no cement bed, no nothing. There is obviously no slope and the drain is level with the tiles on one side and slightly above the tiles on the other. He's still working on the plumbing so I don't know how this is supposed to drain. Should I just fire this guy? Can anything be done to fix this or does it all have to come out? Please help!!

I hope you haven't paid him. He has no idea what he is doing. As far as the shower floor it has to be removed. There is no way it can work the way he has installed it. Don't know what he is doing to the plumbing but if it's anything like his tile work he will for sure screw that up.

Haven't paid him a dime. I'm assuming there is no way to seal the shower from top side then?

Take pictures, lots of them. You just might them for your upcoming lawsuit!

Then check to confirm he is in fact a licensed contractor. Something tells me he is not.

Thanks for the quick replies and help guys. I confronted him yesterday and called him out on everything i knew was wrong and he tried to argue but i stood firm. He actually ended up quitting himself which worked out nicely. Either he was just a moron or was trying to get off easy by not doing it right. We never even had a contract. I'm paying him for 1 part he put in and not a penny more. I took pictures just in case but i think he knows he doesnt have a leg to stand on. I already hired a reputable company that does bathrooms to replace the shower floor.

Good, at least you caught it before you paid him. I think he just didn't know any better. Most rip off artists would have gotten a large down payment from you before the work started.

Who knows...I plan on never seeing or talking to him again! but i will definitely check with the next person.
