Hi, Is it safe to cut a copper vent pipe with a reciprocating saw due to possible gasses?

It would have to be a very unusually high % of gas to ignite it.
I've never heard of anyone igniting sewer gas by cutting a vent.

You can always use tubing cutters, but I don't see any problem with the saw-zall.

If you are worried about the possibility of the gases igniting I would say you should be safe. I have never heard of this type of issue happening. Over time, the sewer gas inside of the pipe has been known to make people sick, but I am not aware of any dangers from simply cutting the pipe.
