Sink clogged - not the same old thing

Please help me with this if you can. I opened the bathroom cabinet and noticed a bar of some kind of soap that came with a shaving kit had turned to liquid from the heat. It was in a cellophane wrapper and had leaked a bit inside the cabinet. I'm not sure exactly what kind of soap it was, may have had some kind of oil or wax in it. At cooler temps, the bar was solid but now it was all liquid.

So I cleaned off the cabinet shelf and instinctively just dumped the liquid down the sink drain. Whatever component was in it that allowed it to be solid apparently returned to solidity when some cold water went down the drain. Now I have water backing up that won't go down.

I've tried Drano several times, and baking soda/vinegar followed by hot water several times. No dice. Any ideas? I'm thinking of applying a heat gun to the elbow pipe below while running hot water, maybe that will soften the wax/oil. Would a snake device work? I know nothing about plumbing so excuse my ignorance.

Most likely the soap has hardened in the trap. If you have not done so yet, remove the trap and clean out what you can of the soap. Be very careful now that you have added Drano. Wear rubber gloves and eye protection before removing the trap. This stuff can eat your skin.

I agree with taking the trap off and seeing if you can clean it out.

The hair dryer thing may work on any section of pipe that you can't manually clean, be prepared for possible damage to plastic fittings or ferrules though, may be possible.

Another option is getting the faucet water as hot as you can and use one of the King Drain drain plug/ cleaners with the hot water from your faucet. I've seen these things work where snakes couldn't, but on dried up and hardened soap? Worth a try.
