What is leaking? HELP!

Had a new stool installed on Thursday about 11:00 a.m. I could hear throughout the day, every now and then, the sound of the tank filling a little bit. I figured that when my hubby got in from out of town, I would ask him to adjust the thing in the tank-I thought maybe the flapper was not set correctly...I do not know toilets!

Friday morning about noon, I noticed the carpet was wet in the adjoining bedroom, I pulled the corner and it saturated. I called the plumber and said there was a leak somewhere. He came by and tightened one of the bolts. This stool has 3 on the bottom of the tank and one was loose. So, that is why the tank was filling a little every now and then. I showed him the wet carpeting and he said the tank could not have leak enough in 1 day to have the water run under the 6 foot vanity, or under the ceramic tile.

I asked several times if there could be an issue with the wax ring. He assured me that is fine-he did not do the work one of his guys did. After he drove away my son and I saw water seeping up from under the laminate hardwood flooring-3 feet out from the bathroom threshold. So, we took that up and the pad was like a wet sponge. The plumber came back and he says we have to have leak somewhere else. He checked the water meter outside and it was not moving.

Where do we go from here? That does seem like an extreme amount of water from a little toilet tank leak. Could the water be running under the tile? He suggested that we both shower this a.m....and then I filled the tub twice and set it to drain slow. The plumber suggested that we had a leak in the tub drain. We did not see any water since.

Help, any ides?

I would dry everything up as best as you can, and set up a fan to blow over the affected areas. Let everything set for awhile, and see if the water comes back. The fill and drain the tub a couple of times, and see if the water comes back.

I would seriously doubt that the wax ring is causing your problem. When they do leak, usually it is a very small amount at a time. My guess is that the problem was the toilet tank leak.

The Plumber that did the repacement must have either not tightened something, or could possibly have broke something (pipe) in the wall. Do not count on the water meter leak detector. I have seen non-detected leaks that allow for a lot of water and no movement of the meter detection device. If you had no water leak before the replacement, you shouldn't have leaks now. If the Plumber is telling you that there is a leak, have him find it and show it to you before fixing it.

Well, I think the leak was the bolts on the tanks-the one the Plumber tighten. We have showered in that bathroom, ran the tub full of water twice and drained, we have checked under the sink-no water, our stack washer and dryer are in there and we rand that at least 5 times in the past two days-no water....this guy already told us that-no way could the tank leak that much!

What do you all suggest? We just bite the bullet and repair everything at our cost?

or pursue the painful experience of dealing with this plumber?

Originally, I thought you meant the Plumber tightened to floor bolts (the ones that hold the toilet to the floor). If the tank bolts or gasket are what is leaking, you should easily be able to see water either hanging from or dripping from the bolts. I would not let him get away with this. Not sure how he can say "it can't leak that much". I would contact the local Permit office and see if he is licensed.
I really hate saying that, since many people who have problems with a Plumber, later admit they wanted the job done cheap and hired someone off the street or a friend of a friend.

We bought this stool from a large chain...and this installer was given the call to stall it. We paid for the install. So, after I see what happens Tuesday-I will call that store's customer service. they have to stand behind their service.

if they give you any BS, call the corp, office talk to the managers boss.

next step is telling your story on their facebook page,,,,they will bend over backwards to get that negative post off their page

also, this is just me. I would tell them not to send the idiot who said it is not leaking much, he is lazy and i would not trust him to pour water in my dogs bowl

You would be surprised on how much water will accumulate from a small drip gone unchecked.
