Renovators in my apartment building recently broke a pipe somewhere and had to shut off the building water to fix it. After replacement, the hot water was initially yellow with visible sediment. This cleared, but it's a couple days later, and trace sediment still comes out with the hot water (it slowly gathers in a trail of grit at the bottom of the tub if running for a while). Is this normal? Does it take a while to clear sediment?

The building is not highly occupied yet, so I'm one of only a few using the hot water if that helps put into perspective how long this should take.

Thanks for any insight.

Yes this is normal, it will get better soon.

And it will happen again, after most plumbing repairs in the building.

Don’t wash any white or very light colored laundry until the water clears up, it can become stained from rust.
