Leaky shutoff before meter what to do

Hello,

So just before I went on vacation I turned the main shutoff off in my basement (first time i have done this in my new home) and when i did this some water was spit out of the where the handle is there was has a drip after that.

I wasn't sure what to do since I was leaving right then so I turned the handle back to open and turned a shutoff that I had right before the water softener but after the meter.

I just came back after 2 weeks and saw no signs off water dripping so i then turned the shutoff by my water softener back on and noticed soon after that the shutoff before the meter is now dripping at a steady rate of 1 drip per 7 sec.

I am not much of a plumber DIYer so am wondering what people think is going on here. Please see attached pictures. If this valve needs to be replaced the main outside in my front yard is under snow so that would be tricky.

Thoughts?? Even suggestions that could help get me to spring if it needs to be replaced would be helpful.

If you look at the picture the water seems to be dripping where there is some blue discoloration. I am wondering if when I turned the handle something that was ready to go finally went...

In some towns, the valve on the city side of the meter is the responsibility of the village to maintain.

Also in some towns, the meter and valves on both sides are their problem.

In others, everything is on you after the valve by the street.

You should call the village to ask about it.

Meanwhile, it will probably stop dripping by itself.

Put a bucket under it and call your water department.

They might be inclined to fix a leak of unmetered water asap.
