I live in a home on a concrete slab. Wednesday night I noticed small puddles of water on kitchen floor, thought it was a spill, by Friday I continued to see water and have my socks soaked through so I knew it wasn’t just spills or from snow. Saturday I pulled up the loose tile in the adjoining mud room and saw significant water. Dried water and realized it was streaming out of a small hole in the wall that runs behind my cabinet and dishwasher. Turned off hot and cold water under sink, put towels around the leaking wall. Cold water continues to leak drenching a full towel in an hour or two. Cold water continues to rise from tiles 3/4 of the way across my floor from dishwasher/sink. Water dial on my meter is not spinning. Towels on tiles are soaked in two hours. Cabinet foot board that runs under sink and next to dishwasher is soaked. Cabinet bottoms and under sink is dry....plumber coming out tomorrow morning but any ideas what I am looking??? Single mom without ton of money budgeted for something like this....should I be contacting my homeowners insurance?

Assume you have never had ground water problems at this house in the past but have you been getting a lot of rain lately?

Turning off hot and cold under sink would not stop water leaking from behind the walls or in the floor. You must try shutting the main valves back in some utility room or area where the hot water source or main cold water source would be coming from.

Don’t call the insurance company unless you are certain you need to make a claim.

IF the problem is even covered, you should probably just try to eat the cost if it is under $750 to $1000 or so.
Try to negotiate installments with the plumber.
Maybe make him a nice lunch, you might fall in love and all live happily ever after!

Some insurance companies will raise your rates right away, and some will give you one claim before raising you.

But then comes your next claim, maybe your roof blows off or there is a fire, or you get robbed, whatever.
Now you are already on their short list to be dropped, and they will pay your claim then might try to dump you, or jack your rates sky high.

If you get dumped, other companies will know about it.

And worst of all, some companies will charge you with a “zero cost claim” if you just call to ask if something might be worth claiming.
Still counts against your record!

PS Even though the water seems cold, make sure it is not coming from the water heater.

If you turn off all the house water, and the water heater is leaking, then turn off the water heater also, to avoid it burning up.

It sounds like you have a pin hole leak on a pipe that's under ground. Check all your visible pipes and make sure there
are no leaks. Let us know what your plumber found.

i had something just like that the family spent most of their time drying towels, water came right thru a flag stone floor, they had 2 hotwater heaters in the house,on for the main house,on for the guest apt with only myself and the owner home no fixtures being used, the main house hot water heater was firing....i shut of that feed and the water stopped.......the hot water line was broken in the foundation....it effected the second floor bath with out a major reno that they could not afford, i install point of use hwh...just for the sink.....they did have another bath for showering
