Just had a new sink installed in my bathroom and the drain hole on this new sink is centered compared to my old sink which was off center and further back. When I look underneath the sink the P trap is now sitting about 5" farther back and slightly to the left side from where the sink hole is now. Is this an easy fix that I can do myself with just new parts or is it more complicated that will require a professional? Do I need some sort of extension or new P trap? Can I turn the pipe counterclockwise to try to get it closer to the sink drain and then add attachment? Attached are pics.Sink1.jpg Sink2.jpg

You should be able to do this yourself it is just buying off the shelf parts and screwing them altogether with the right angles. That piece you show just unscrew it a bit until it turns. Usually they sell the entire sink drain kit with just about everything you'd need to plumb it into your existing plumbing. Nothing I see there looks hard in any way.

First you need to install the sink drain and tailpiece.

Is that a vanity sink?

Looks like there is no faucet yet either.

If it is a vanity sink, the drain and tailpiece will come with the faucet.

You can install a longer p trap arm, or an extension tube, to get the p trap to reach your new sink drain.

Sounds like you might not really be up to doing this stuff by yourself.

As others have said, you should install the drain and tail piece first. The slip joint P-trap can be adjusted. That bend coming out of the wall can be removed and replaced with a straight piece that can be cut just long enough to give more reach (if that is even necessary) and the bend piece can be attached to it using the slip washers and nuts. The trap can pivot to different angles once loosened enough so you can get it to line up with the tail piece. If you're lucky you may not even have to replace or cut anything- although from eyeballing the picture, I think you will probably need a short run between the trap and the wall to bring it out enough.
