Just a small gripe, but the appliance is a water heater, not a hot water heater.

There would be no need to heat hot water.

Ok, just needed to let that one out there, haha.

But when someone calls it a hot water heater, you know what they are talking about.

Most of the time it is heating hot water to make it hotter. :p

For example, you don’t call your food freezer a frozen food freezer.

You don’t call an air compressor a compressed air compressor.

You don’t call a water pump a pumped water pump.

Anyway, not a biggie but just an annoyance of language.

Yeah I've heard it for many years. But never thought much about it either way.

Bad examples!
I would call a compressor a HIGH PRESSURE air compressor if that was the case.
Or HIGH PRESSURE water pump if it applied.

Think of it as an added word to better describe something.

If a unit only raises the temperature of water to a point considered WARM, it's still a water heater. Whereas a HOT water heater is capable of heating water to a point considered HOT. Whatever that point may be, of course.

My point in all my examples is that the added word is redundant.

Just like hot water heater does not need the word hot.

You are heating cold water, to make it hot.

In fact, calling it a cold water heater would be a valid name.

This whole topic is just for grins, anyway.
Nothing serious.

Definitely nothing serious.

But I have to say, I prefer "water heater" over "cold water heater".

I'm retired! What's your excuse? :);)

Yes, water heater is what it should be.

I work only part time, due to arthritis and chronic depression.
I work when my body and brain decide to let me function well enough.

So plenty of free time to waste on fluff postings like this, haha.

Ha! I don't know why but I cringe when people refer to the pool heater as a "water heater". It's just "the heater"!
