Need a tub/shower valve/trim to replace an old 3 handle faucet. Problem is the wall is 2 1/4" thick (metal lathe/concrete/tile) and a standard faucet I purchased would not work on the thick wall. Anybody got any ideas as to what valve/trim will work? If I have to I will upgrade to a single valve. I would prefer a valve with flow control if possible. Please talk to me like a five year old. I'm the handy type just not a plumber.

I emailed Moen and the rep told me the Moentrol would not work and the Posi Temp would, but it didn't make sense because both have extension kits (which is what I thought would let them work) but the rep said the extensions didn't make the valve able to go in a thicker wall, so yep I am confused...

Yes they do make extension kits for both. If you want flow control get the Moentrol. Otherwise go poistemp. And don't forget your extension kit.
