Broken shower cartridge

So one day I got accidentally pulled on the shower handle and one the o rings and washers broke off the shower cartridge and I don’t know what kind it is and I can’t seem find online it be awesome someone can help me and here a picture of it too

You pulled the inner core out of a Moen 1200 cartridge. Tools are made to get the remaining portion out of the valve body. Once you have gotten the remains portion out of the body you can replace the cartridge with a 1225 cartridge.

Doug. I used the Moen cartridge puller on a 1200, and what happened was it sheere of the top of the casing and pulled out the stem. Does the Lasco puller have the ability to extract the cartridge sleeve from the inside? Currently I have the stem held in by the little U pin. All the plumbers want to replace the whole regulator and I can't do that financially at the moment. Thanks. -Brian

The two pictures you are showing the stem is still there. You have to take the clip out and then use the puller. Put the puller
on and then twist it back and forth and then pull it. If the stem pulled out of the cartridge try using some PB Blaster in the
cartridge so it lubricates. They will come out but it takes some work.

Tom, reread the thread. The OP pulled the cartridge core out of the outer cartridge sleeve, which is still stuck in the body of the valve.

He has reinserted the core, and clipped it in so it won’t run water while he turns the water back on In the house.

The OPs problem is now he needs to remove the outer sleeve.

I don’t have much experience with the new style Moen cartridges, but I once had to run a 1/2-20 tap into the body, and then run the stem of a gear puller into the new thread, and stacking a bunch of hardened washers against the valve body, and pulled it out with the threads.

I figured that the only other option was to replace the whole valve. And since it was in a fiberglass shower, on an exterior wall, replacing the whole valve was a really bad option.

You can find lots of Youtube videos showing how to extract the shell of a Moen cartridge, just as FishScreener has described.

There have also been several recent threads here with links to those videos, if you search for them.

The videos describe exactly how to use a hand tap to create threads, then a hardened bolt and washers are used to create a puller device to crank out the cartridge, the hardened bolt screws into where the stem used to be.

The tool on Amazon that Douglass links to is unavailable.

And many reviews say it is a piece of crap, that often breaks, or the extraction bolt snaps and now you are doubly screwed.

Dan, can you post more info, who makes it, and also a link to it on Home Depot website?

You squeeze the button near the end, insert it in place of the part you pulled. Feel around till the button snaps into water supply hole in outer shell , then twist and shout. once it rotates gives a steady pull...voila

Here is a link to one like that, on Amazon.
There are other similar versions.

Apparently, the little pin on the end is spring-loaded.
You push the long shaft inside the cartridge and twist around until the pin grabs one of the orifices in the cartridge body.
Then you can yank it out, and also keep twisting if needed.
