Gurgling in kitchen drain when dishwasher is draining

I am currently at my wit's end trying to diagnose gurgling that happens at my kitchen sink when the dishwasher drains. The drain is not clogged or plugged at all. We also have a RO filter and it gurgles while the tank is refilling. Could these two sounds be related? We have been told that "gurgling is normal" but I refuse to believe it! I have never had this problem at any house I have lived in. Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

Under the counter R/O units purge lots of water while producing filtered water. This purged water is tied to your drain lines, and you are hearing the water resonating in the pipes below the sink. A dishwasher also purges water during the drain cycle, and this water is also dumped into your drain lines under the sink.

It happens to us all, and normal.

Thanks for your reply! Isn't gurgling a sign that there's air in the lines and if it's normal wouldn't everyone who has a R/O unit hear this gurgling? I have asked around and my family members and friends who have one don't have the gurgling and I have been at people's houses while their dishwashers are running and they don't have gurgling. It's not simply the sound of water going through pipes. I am completely baffled when people tell me it's normal. I'm thinking there some way I can bleed the air? TIA

Post a picture of the drain lines under your sink.

Water sits in your p trap, stopping gasses from getting inside the house. When new water is introduced into the p trap (from purging r/o water and from the dishwasher) it will push through the p trap making the sound of air, but is just water being forced into the p trap. You won't hear this noise when the sink is flowing because the force of the water creates enough volume of water that the p trap gets completely flushed out.
