Tankless water heater to replace old Whirlpool water heater

Need some help here before talking to a vendor to have my 16-year-old Whirlpool water heater replaced with a On-demand wall unit hot water heater.


I have a small 1 bed room condo in FLA that I use only for the winter months. I did have the rod replaced about 4 years ago from my current Whirlpool hot water heater but from the water sitting for months at a time in the tank you must flush out the tank by running the hot water until the smell goes away. I really don't use much water other than using the shower etc so I’m looking for the correct Unit for my condo.


I would like to replace the old unit with a On-demand Hot water heater and before talking to local vendors here in FLA, I would like to know what’s a good budget to work with to buy and install an efficient wall unit directly from a vendor.


Any info would be great! Vero Beach FLA is the area and maybe some on the forum could recommend a vendor around here.

Consider replacing your tank water heater.
You will find no bigger fan than me, for Navien tankless water heaters, as long as you have the money to burn.
Yes, you can get a tankless water heaters from the major brands which are worthy.
Noritz, Navien, Rinnai, Takagi, Bosch.
I highly recommend the first three.
I only recommend the latest condensing models because they have much friendlier quick connect parts inside.
The first three brands listed are all stainless steel components. I don't know about other brands.
The quality models will run over $1,400 but it is worth it for the improved serviceability and they are 96% energy effecient.
I see so many of the sub $1,000 models around, and they work ok, but if there are problems, then you get into higher repair costs. And they are not as effecient either.
The rest of the cost will be piping to the unit both gas, water and electricity.
It is not unusual around here for total cost, installed to be $5,000+. We do lots of them.
Yes, it will last over 20 years. But, you will never get any return on your investment, vs just replacing your tank water heater.

Ironically, last winter when I just arrive in Verobeach fla for the winter months, my 16 year old Munchkin propane boiler went dead in CT that I used for forced hot air for heat and hot water with an indirect hot water tank and I had to work with a local HVAC vendor to get this replace and they recommended the Navian boiler. It's AWESOME! and 10 grand later. But worth it!

OK.. I'll have to shop around but don't think I want to spend 5 grand+ and just might go with the traditional Hot water heater that I have now but not sure.
