My half bath just underwent a remodel, which meant replacing toilet and sink. Now, on certain days only, I get a strong septic/sewer smell. (I have septic.) It comes and goes.

I don't know if I have a septic problem or a plumbing/install problem. How can I figure this out so I know whether to haul the remodeler back in here to fix it or I call someone else?

I believe all plumbing is vented out the roof.

Did you tile the floor? If so and there wasn’t tile before, your toilet flange is probably too low and you’re not getting a proper seal. We see that a lot if the contractor doesn’t use a plumber because “hey, anybody can set a toilet”

They make a spacer to fit over the flange to raise it up
that is an option
BUT
I would insist that the plumber, remove the old flange and set a new flange at the correct height.
which is.

face / top of flange is MINIMUM 1/4 above the finished floor
ideal height is bottom of flange sits level with top of tile

FAIL. That did not solve the problem, as it turns out. Seemed good for awhile, but now the smell is back...sadly, badly.
