Hi there i'm wondering if someone here would know what brand of shower faucet is this? and would this be a straight cartridge that i can just swap out. I've never seen such a thing before they aren't branded like Moen or Delta which would be a quick 5 minute fix. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks. I just want to delve further into the plumbing hole to see if i can find a cartridge for it or if necessary be able to take it apart and change out the rubber seals like some of the older faucets i've worked with. There was literally no branding anywhere here.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Moen 1225B
OMG thank you very much you saved me alot of running around, when i took the pic to home depot they didn't even know what it was.

this is perfect now i can find the cartridge for it and order.

thanks again Matt30!

If you call Moen, they will send a new one for free. In my case, it was at my door 3 days after I called. They are guaranteed for life.

Get the brass version of the cartridge.
The plastic version will work, but is less reliable in my experience.

That little tab on top pulls straight up and out.

Then the new cartridge will come with a little white plastic part that fits over the old valve stem.
You use that with some pliers or a wrench, to twist the old cartridge to help break it free from the valve body.

Sometimes the old cartridge is really stuck in there, you can buy a Moen cartridge puller at most plumbing supply stores.
Or maybe you can rent it if needed.

Jeff, the brass version has not been widely used for over 25 years. The plastic version is standard on all moentrol valves. Moen warranties their products for life, so what’s the difference?

That old valve body looks thirty years old at least.
Not a pressure balanced type.

I still buy the more solid brass cartridges for them, because I have had a few problems over the last few decades with plastic ones.

Moen might not be sending out brass ones, I don’t know because I buy mine at Home Depot.
When I need one for myself or a client, I usually want it right away.
They are only about $20.00.

I do often try to get free stuff sent for more outrageously priced parts, such as Kohler.

Everyone viewing this thread, Please only get your Moen parts from Moen. If you’re going to buy at that “big box store” don’t buy non Moen compatible cartridges. I have replaced literally thousands of these cartridges in the moentrol as well as the earlier chateau non pressure balanced valve. Only OEM parts work every time. The box store will put aftermarket cartridges that are cheaper right next to the more expensive Moen parts....you will have a shorter usable life and can have other problems. 1-800-BUYMOEN. They will send you free stuff for life. How cool is that?
