I'm in the process of getting quotes to add a bathroom to a Cabana in the backyard, which the sewer line is approx over 100 linear feet away from where we want to put the new bathroom. All of this is on a pretty flat surface. Of several quotes I've received, one Plummer recommended adding a lift station cause he stated that the distance is too far and if a lift station underground isn't added, we could have issues with the sewer line getting backed up.

Does this sound right?

100 feet equals 25 inches of fall. You can do the math. 100 feet is a LONG way for a turd to go just to get to the mainline. He is probably right on.

Can't disagree that a 100 feet is a long travel, but 1/8"/ft slope is the minimum slope which would equate to at least 12.5" of fall.
The big advantage to a sump pump/lift station would be that it would likely pump a larger quantity of liquid each pump cycle.
Be sure to include clean outs.

Thanks for the info. Is there a maximum of linear feet that a sewer line can go before needing a lift station?

The advantage of the pump is that it grinds things into a slurry, so you don’t end up with the solids dropping out in low slope drain lines.
