I am relocating my water heater from my basement laundry room to my basement "crawl space." The location I would like to move it to has cold and hot water copper pipes running right above where the water heater is going. Can I tee off of these to the water heater or do I need to reconnect the water heater in the sequence that it is currently installed?

I'm assuming I can tie into it in this new location and it will work just fine other than I may notice differences on certain faucets getting hot water sooner or later than they did previously. Which I'm totally fine with. It's not that big of a house and everything gets hot relatively quickly already.

I am correct or way off??
Not a plumber.
Woodworker.
Thanks!!

So I assume you would be dealing in the same size piping connecting to the water heater in either location.
I would also give some thought to whether the new arrangement would impose a greater flow demand on a common pipe feeding multiple fixtures, that could result in increased pressure loss to something.

Personally, I would sketch out the piping system to help me analyze exactly what changes would be taking place relative to water flow direction and its potential impact.
Actually my water systems are simple enough that I could look at it and readily see any obvious impacts to potential flow and pressure changes.

Yes, electric. Yes, I believe the piping is the the same throughout the house.
Diehard - I'll take a closer look at how this will affect the different fixtures - I didn't think about that.
