I'm replacing a toilet and noticed that the flange is about 1/8" below the level of the tile, and my understanding is it should be above the flooring. It also seems that either the flange or the tile isn't perfectly level. It's lasted 14 years with just the wax ring but I wanted to get some pros and cons of that vs adding a spacer. I'm a novice at this and my wife wants me to just call a plumber. Thanks.

Lay the toilet on its side, place a straight edge across the bottom and measure the depth of the recess where the wax ring goes. This will tell you if a 1" thick wax ring will seal. And there are other seals available that may surpass the annoyance of wax rings.
